Adult horse eating manure?
The other day I noticed my 6 year old nosing through a pile of manue in his paddock (dont know if it was his or somebody else) i cant think of a reason as to why he wold be needing to eat manure… he gets a hight quality vitamin/mineral supplement (triple crown) and about7-8 flakes of good quality grass/timothy mix throughout the day. he has salt in his stall too ( i was advise not to give him a free choice mineral block as it might upset the balance of vit/min from his supplement)
Could he be bored? hes getting enough hay in the daytime but there isnt really any grass yet… we rotate turnout so somedays he gets group but some days he is alone but has horses on both sides of him)
could there be a reason or is he just being wierd?
Horse’s digestion is very poor and a lot of times the grain isn’t completely digested. Oats especially come out the same way they went in. He may have been after that.
He sounds like he’s bored…may I suggest an Amazing Graze or other paddock toy?
