St Petersburg Russia – City of Palaces

Saint Petersburg is a city of Russia located on the Neva River at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea. The city’s other names were Petrograd and Leningrad. It is often called just Petersburg and is informally known as Piter.

There’s no better city to visit for beautiful palaces, impressive gardens and stately museums than St. Petersburg in Russia. It has a collection of interesting places and activities that tourists, travelers and visitors alike will find exciting and riveting.

The city’s nickname, “City of Palaces“, is perfect to describe one of the most beautiful destinations in the country. It has an extensive collection of stunning and colossal architecture. To name a few, there are the majestic Summer and Winter Palaces as well as the grand Menshikov palace.

You will be happy to know that you can freely explore these magnificent edifices because they are now home to the country’s many museums. For one, the Summer Palace houses an impressive Emperor Peter the Great collection. Other palatial structures include some of the most glorious churches and cathedrals in the world. Top of the list is St. Isaac Cathedral whose claim to fame is having the world’s largest gold-plated dome. There is also the Smolny Cathedral that is truly charming with its stunning blue-and-white color palette in baroque style.

Another of St. Petersburg’s claim to fame – is the extensive green areas. It has several parks and gardens waiting to be explored and enjoyed. Some of the notable ones are the Alexander Garden and its illuminated musical fountain as well as the Botanical Garden and its more than 12,000 species of flora.

For some picture perfect monuments, head to the Palace Square and view the grandeur of its columns – named after the Alexander. You will not miss this because it stands out from the rest having been crafted out of the rare red granite. Another photo opportunity that is quintessentially Russian is the Bronze Horseman located at the Senate Square.

St. Petersburg is also home to the most remarkable art museums in the world. For an extensive survey of Western European masterpieces, the Hermitage is the place to visit. If it’s the Russian works of art that you are interested in, then take a look at the large collection of the State Russian Museum. There are also other thematic museums all over the city such as those dedicated to applied arts at Stieglitz Museum as well as military and political history at the Suvorov Museum.

If you are looking for notable performances, take a pick from the city’s more than 50 theatres and be totally awe-struck by both local and international talents. The world-famous ballet performance at the Mariinsky Theater is a must-see. If you want to see the city aglow with stunning fireworks and festive atmosphere, then time your visit during the White Nights Festival and you are in for a big treat.

Finally, make time for the stunning estate of Peterhof just outside of St. Petersburg built in the 17th century. This palace and park complex is hailed as the Russian Versailles because of its magnificent fountains and gardens. It is also equipped with an elongated pool that is connected to the Baltic Sea. The palace interiors are also worth checking out for the opulent ornamentation and design.

The Equipment that you need for Horse Riding

You cannot just jump on a horse and ride it without the proper equipment, because it would be a lot more difficult than you think. Having the right equipment to ride a horse will ensure that you have a comfortable and safe ride. You might be taking horse riding lessons, riding for fun, or for job related reasons, but either way you need to learn about all of the equipment that you will need especially if it is your first time to ride.

One of the first items that you will need to buy for your horse is bridles. This is an item that has reins on it that needs to be placed on the mouth of the horse. This is an important piece of equipment because it helps you to lead the horse in different directions as you ride it. Your steering will also be made a lot easier if you find one that you and your horse are more comfortable with. The next item that you need to buy is the reins that go with the bridle. This is something that helps in the steering of the horse. It is very important that you purchase good quality reins, because the cheaper ones won’t last as long and will break really easily. They might even break while you are riding the horse which is not very safe for you at all.

Saddles are something that you will need to put on the horses back in order to have a more comfortable ride. You can choose between either the English saddles or the Western saddles, but the Western saddles are the ones that people like the most because they are a lot more comfortable to use. Western saddle also has a horn on the front of it as an optional hold in case the ride becomes a bit rough.

The next things that you need to buy are stirrups. They are what you place your feet in when you are getting on the horse and when you are riding to help keep your legs and feet in place. You need to make sure that you find the right length for your legs. Crops and whips are the next items that you will need to buy because these are items that will help you to better steer the horse when the reins aren’t working well enough. However, these are optional items.

ake sure you buy all the horse tack and equestrian equipment such as horse rugs online where the best deals can be got.

About the Author

Which is less expensive, English or Western horse riding tack?

I am going to buy horse tack and I was wondering which is cheaper because the horse I just bought goes both. No I am not one of those people who keep horses on 3 acres I have 53 acres and 2 horses now. Please don’t post if it is just pointing out flaws in the questions or criticizing me.

You can get cheap and expensive tack in both styles. I would base your decision on what you like better, not what’s cheaper, because you can find cheap tack in both Western and English.

Collectible Horse Figurines: Great Gift Ideas for Horse Enthusiasts

Horses are probably of the most well loved animals in the world. These strong but gentle creatures are dependable and trustworthy with heavy work and can make great companions. Thousands of people from all parts of the globe find it hard not to fall in love with these magnificent creatures.

Horse lovers always have a tendency to show their love for these animals in more ways than one. Go into a horse lover’s home and you are bound to see a painting or an image of her favorite companion in several areas of the house. So for those you who are looking for a present to give a friend who’s passionate about horses, the best gift idea would be to give collectible horse figurines.

Horse figurines can come in various sizes, shapes and colors. An important thing that you need to consider when buying a collectible item is the kind of material used and the quality of the product’s craftsmanship.

One of the most common materials used for making these figurines is porcelain. Porcelain is a very fragile material, making these pieces even more valuable. The best porcelain figurines are those that are painted by hand. There are also antique pieces that are considered to be one of the most priceless collectible items in the market.

Another very popular material used for making collectible horse figurines is wood. There are some pieces that are actually carved by hand, making them more valuable and expensive.

For those who want a more modern and elegant take on these collectible items, you can choose to give out glass or crystal figurines instead. Glass and crystal figurines have a very wide price range, depending on the quality of the material and the craftsmanship of the product.

The least expensive collectible horse figurines that you can probably find in the market today are those made out of plastic. But still, there are quite a few plastic pieces that are just as beautiful and can make great gifts.

As mentioned before, figurines can vary in size. There are smaller pieces that can make the perfect table decor, charm or jewelry; while there are also larger figurines that can be used to decorate bare corners of the room.

If you are lucky enough to be the first person to give your recipient collectible horse figurines, then you can turn that gift-giving into tradition by presenting to her a different piece during future celebrations. This can be a wonderful collection that your loved one can build over the years. Your recipient can use these beautiful figurines to decorate her bedroom or even showcase them in the living den, for all of her family and friends to see.

Fortunately, these pieces are not very hard to find at all. Although there are some rare items that may require a little bit of hunting, horse figurines are usually one of the most common types of figurines sold in stores, gift and home decor shops.

Aside from that, they also make beautiful gifts for those who are not into horses at all. Collectible horse figurines appeal to almost everyone, and getting someone – horse enthusiast or not – a collectible figurine is more than a welcome gift.

About the Author

It is important to find the gifts that best compliment your busy contemporary life. Look no further! With Vintage Oriental Figurines Collection, you will find the collectible horse figurines you are looking for.

Room Decor Ideas for me?

So i am redoing my room. My walls will probably be a pale orange. I also am into green. I hate pink. And i don’t want it to have bright colors. Do you guys have any ideas for websites to buy stuff? I like horses and i am 12, if that changes any! Thanks!

Think your favorite color then choose the best color and then color your room decor. Don’t change the design only the color or create a color combination from your favorite color.

Yoga, Meditation And Western Horseback Riding

Meditation and Relaxation Add to Western Horseback Riding

New riders are often drawn to western horseback riding for the reason that it appears less rigorous than other riding disciplines. The fact is nothing could be further from the truth. Although western styled riding is more laid back in general it requires every bit as much attention and skill even when compared to the skill of dressage. Controlling a 1200 pound animal is no uncomplicated feat regardless of how competently taught and the unique communication between animal and man based on mutual respect is as essential in western horseback riding as it is in any other style.

As rigorous as western horseback riding is there is some reason for the belief it is relaxed. Though it takes knack there is a mental and physical relaxation involved in western horseback riding that is as much a part of the skill as it is part of the satisfaction. Using relaxation to broaden western riding abilities has become a key to excelling in the competitive world of western style riding events.

Locating Your Core

Just as in meditation and relaxation techniques finding your center is crucial in western horseback riding. Employing many of the same methods used by yoga and meditation experts can help you relax into your seat. In western horseback riding the seat even more than in all other riding disciplines is a major communication center. Sitting deep and comfortably will ensure a direct line of communication. Relaxed reins offer less continuous contact with the mouth and being able to use legs and seat to transform desires helps develop a pivotal relationship between horse and rider.

Getting a Leg Up

With all of the benefits of western horseback riding it is very well suited to helping disabled children and adults alike enjoy the inherent communication between horse and man. The benefits extend even further in that the muscles used to sit a horse are naturally engaged and steadiness is improved along with mental stillness. There have been numerous cases where therapeutic horseback riding has helped bring autistic children out of their shells even for short moments, given physically disabled children and adults more dexterity and confidence, and made important strides in the mental well-being of psychologically distressed individuals.

Past Connecting the Yet to come

While it is less historically known in Europe western horseback riding has a root deep into the western past of America. Those roots connect to the current era of competition, trail riding, open country, combination training, and even most recently Olympic riding endeavors. The future of western horseback riding is ensured by its value in stock control, exciting rodeo events, challenging gaming events, as much as in the relaxing mental setting it provides.

I have two questions, Whats the difference between Western and English Horseback riding?

Im looking into taking horseback riding lessons one place offers both English and Western Style, the other place, that looks more interesting, only offers English style, thats why Im interested in the difference. Also I couldn’t fit this into the question area, What is dressage and what is Hunt seat? I looked them both up online, but I dont understand too much of horseback riding information, so I don’t quite understand what both are and the difference for that as well. Thanks in advance for helping.

There are many differences between english and western riding styles, the most obvious being the difference in tack. Tack, which encompases the sadddle and bridle, as well as any other “gear” the horse might wear, differs signifigantly between western and english. If you were to ride western, you would use a western saddle, which has a horn (the thing in the front of the saddle that sticks up), and a much deeper wider seat. On the other hand, if you were to ride english, you would use an english saddle, which has no horn, and flatter, shallower seat. Western riders are often western pleasure riders (which is a different riding style within western, like barrel racing or pole bending) which calls for the horse to have a very lopey sittable gait and carry their head very low. The rider is suppposed to make the ride look relaxed, controlled, and give the illusion of easyness. English style, which i ride, is more of a formal, riding style that calls for controll, and obedience. Technically, english riding can be more detail oriented, and there are more technical things that the rider must know, such as controll and use of their legs, seat, and hands. However, just like western, “english” only names the discipline one rides and not the type ie. hunter, jumper, eventer, or equitation. As for your other question, dresage is another style of english riding that takes the technicality of riding even higer, and requires its participants to be able to complete complex manuvers on the flat. Hunt seat applies to english riding also, and is the way that the rider uses her seat, hands, and legs together often while jumping over obstacles. It was meant to mimic the style of riding that fox hunters displayed. I appoligize for the lenghty explanation, but i hope it helps

Friesian Horse

Spelling and usage

In English, the word indicating origin from the Friesland region is typically spelled “Frisian.” However, the alternative spelling with an extra “e” is used for Friesian cattle. During much of the history of the Friesch Paarden Stamboek breed registry, most breeders of the horses also were breeders of dairy cattle and the same spelling was also used for both breeds, particularly by English-language breeding societies and registries. However, the spelling “Frisian” is often used in other contexts.

Breed characteristics

A Friesian stallion in show stance

The Friesian is most often recognized by its black coat color, though color alone is not their only distinguishing characteristic. Friesian horses also have a long, thick mane and tail, often wavy, and “feathers”–long, silky hair on the lower legs, deliberately left untrimmed. The official breed rarely has white markings of any kind; most registries allow only a small star on the forehead for purebred registration. Though extremely rare, and not accepted for registration in most cases, Friesians are occasionally chestnut. The Friesian’s average height is about 15.3 hands (63 inches or 1.60 m), although it may vary from 14.2 to 17 hands (between 58 in./1.5 m and 68 in./1.7 m) tall at the withers, and mares or geldings must be at least 15.2 hands (1.57 m) tall to qualify for a ’star-designation’ pedigree. The breed is known for a brisk, high-stepping trot. The Friesian is considered a willing, active, and energetic horse that is also gentle and docile. A Friesian tends to have great presence and to carry itself with elegance.

The breed has powerful overall conformation and good bone structure, with what is sometimes called a “Baroque” body type. Friesians have long, arched necks and well-chiseled, short-eared, “Spanish type” heads. Their sloping shoulders are quite powerful. They have compact, muscular bodies with strong sloping hindquarters and a low-set tail. Their limbs are comparatively short and strong. To be accepted as breeding stock in the FPS studbook, a stallion must pass a rigorous approval process.

Today, there are two distinct conformation types. The baroque type has the more robust build of the classical Friesian. The modern, sport horse type is finer-boned. Conformation type is judged less important than correct movement, and both types are common, though the Modern type is currently more popular in the show ring than is the Baroque Friesian.

History of the Friesian

A historic image of Alva 113, Friesian stallion

The breed was developed in the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands, where there is evidence of thousands of years of horse populations, and this breed is said to have descended from the primitive Forest Horse. It is also said that Romans obtained ancestors of the Friesian horse for riding and also took them to England, where the breed type may have influenced the Shire horse, Clydesdale, Fell Pony and Dales Pony.

Ancestors of the modern Friesians were used in medieval times to carry knights to battle. In the 12th and 13th centuries, some eastern horses of crusaders were mated with Friesian stock. During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Netherlands were shortly linked with Spain, there was less demand for heavy war horses as battle arms changed, Andalusian blood was added, lightening its weight and thereby rendering it more suitable (in terms of less food intake and waste output) for work as a more urban carriage horse. Friesians were also used by riding schools in France and Spain for high-school dressage, and they remain popular today for their gentle temperaments and proud appearance.

The historian Ann Hyland wrote of the Friesian breed:

The Emperor Charles (reigned 1516-56) continued Spanish expansion into the Netherlands, which had its Frisian warhorse, noted by Vegetius and used on the continent and in Britain in Roman times. Like the Andalusian, the Frisian bred true to type. Even with infusions of Spanish blood during the sixteenth century, it retained its indigenous characteristics, taking the best from both breeds. The Frisian is mentioned in 16th and 17th century works… a courageous horse eminently suitable for war, lacking the volatility of some breeds or the phlegm of very heavy ones. Generally black, the Frisian was around 15hh with strong, cobby conformation, but with a deal more elegance and quality. The noted gait was a smooth trot coming from powerful quarters. Nowadays, though breed definition is retained, the size has markedly increased, as has that of most breeds due to improved rearing and dietary methods.

The breed was especially popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, when they were not only in demand as harness horses and for agricultural work, but also for the trotting races then so popular. The Friesian may have been used as foundation stock for breeds such as the Dole Gudbrandsdal, the Norfolk Trotter (ancestor of the Hackney), and the Morgan. In the 1800s the Friesian was bred to be lighter and faster for trotting, however this led to what some owners and breeders regarded as inferior stock, so a movement to return to pureblood stock took place by the end of the century.

A Studbook Society was founded in 1879 by Frisian farmers and land owners who had gathered to found the Friesian Cattle Registry (FRS).[citation needed] The Paardenstamboek (“Stud book”) was published in 1880 and initially registered both Friesian horses and a group of heavy warmblood breeds, including East Friesians and Oldenburgers, collectively known as “Bovenlanders.” At the time, the Friesian horse was declining in numbers, and being replaced by the more fashionable Bovenlanders, both directly and by crossbreeding Bovenlander stallions on Friesian mares. This had already virtually exterminated the pure Friesian in significant parts of the province in 1879, which made the inclusion of Bovenlanders necessary. While the work of the registry produced a revival of the breed’s popularity in the late 19th century, it also resulted in the sale and disappearance of many of the best stallions from the breeding area, and Friesian horse populations dwindled. By the very early 20th century until the number of breeding stallions was down to three.[citation needed] Therefore, in 1906, the two parts of the registry were joined, and the studbook was renamed the Friesch Paarden Stamboek (FPS) in 1907.”

Friesian horses are sometimes referred to as “Belgian Blacks”

In 1913, a society known as the Het Friesch Paard was founded, dedicated to the protection and promotion of the breed. By 1915 the group convinced FPS to split the registries back up into two groups. By 1943, the breeders of non-Friesian horses left the FPS entirely to form an entirely separate registry which later became the Koninklijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland (Royal Warmblood Studbook of the Netherlands (KWPN).

Displacement by petroleum-powered farm equipment on dairy farms also was a threat to the survival of Friesian horse. The last draught function performed by Friesians on a significant scale was to work on farms that raised dairy cattle. World War II slowed down the process of displacement, allowing the breed’s population and popularity to rebound. Important in the initial stage of the breed’s rebound was the circus of the Strassburger family, who, having fled Nazi Germany for the Low Countries, discovered the show qualities of the breed and demonstrated its abilities outside of its local breeding area during and after the Nazi occupation.[citation needed]

Today, there are three modern bloodlines: Tetman 205, Age 168, and Ritske 202. Each of these sires trace their blood to Paulus 121, who was born in 1913 and entered into the Studbook in 1916. He in turn can be traced back three more generations to the original 19th century Studbook foundation sire, Nemo 51, born in 1885. All purebred Friesians trace back to these bloodlines.

The Friesian today

A Friesian in surcingle, showing at the trot

From the latter part of the 20th century until the present, demand for purebreds, particularly the “Modern style” finer-boned, taller, more agile version of the Friesian increased, so breeders have bred both purebreds and a lighter-weight crossbred horse with valued characteristics, resulting in the Frieisan cross and Friesian Sporthorse.

Friesian horses are popular in both Europe and the United States, and are often used today for Dressage competition, pleasure riding, and driving. Friesian horses can do well in dressage competition due to the breed’s movement, trainability, appearance, power, and body control.

Closeup of the head

The Friesian also remains popular as a carriage horse, as it is a powerful horse and its high-stepping action is eye-catching. It is particularly popular in competitions that require the driving of a team, partly because of its movement and disposition, and partly because it is easy to match teams of black horses. Friesians are also good all-around horses, used for showing, driving, and general riding, and are also used as circus horses.

Due to its flashy appearance, the Friesian has become popular in the film industry. The breed owes much of its current popularity to the appearance of the Friesian stallion Goliath (real name: Othello) in the 1985 film, Ladyhawke, which ignited a worldwide interest in these horses. Films such as Eragon, The Mask of Zorro, Alexander and The Chronicles of Narnia have also featured Friesian horses. An episode of the popular TV series Lost featured a Friesian/Saddlebred cross. Though they are of dramatic appearance, sometimes their use in dramatizations of actual historical events is of dubious accuracy, given that the breed as it is known today only came into being within the last 400 to 600 years.

What are some good horse starting books?

I just bought a 2 year old gelding that so far is broke and has tons of western pleasure training. My trainer will work with him most of the time but I would like to work a little bit with him too.

This book was required reading for the colts in training class I had to take: “True Horsemanship Through Feel” by Bill Dorrance and Leslie Desmond. You could also try the book “There Are No Problem Horses, Only Problem Riders” by Mary Twelveponies. For working on balance and horsemanship, Sally Swift’s “Centered Riding” books 1 & 2 are rather good.

There are standards of horse riding wear that you need to take into account, and these clothes items are not just for the aesthetics of looking good.

Rather, horse riding clothes have practical uses, which ensure that you would not be injured or inconvenienced while riding your steed. In addition, they play the role to offer you a comfortable feeling and make your riding really enjoyable.

This article reveals the right answers about different horse riding clothes. Here, you will discover what you should wear and why. Hence, read each line carefully to make your riding time really safe and enjoyable.

Q1: What kind of hat or helmet to wear?

This accessory protects your head with its strong shield and soft lining in case you get thrown off or fall off your mount.

Check, if your hat or helmet is approved by the SEI/ASTM (Safety Equipment Institute/American Standard for Testing Materials) so you know that it is indeed safe for you to wear.

If your hat does not adhere to these standards, then you should get a new one as soon as possible.

Q2: What kind of jackets should you wear?

Rather than making sure that you are well-clothed and look good while riding, you should care more for a horse riding jacket. Indeed, it plays the role to make you feel comfortable while sitting on your horse.

In this manner, you should wear a jacket that has a vent at its back or gusset so its bottom parts could spread or lie back on the saddle. This way, the clothing would not get in your way of riding your horse.

Q3: What kind of gloves should you buy?

Horse riding gloves make sure that you would not get blisters on your hands while handling your horse. In addition, these gloves make you feel comfortable while riding, roping, or whatever activity you are doing with your steed.

Q4: What kind of pants to wear?

Horse riding breeches, Jodhpurs, or jeans provide you protection from the rough leather saddle. In addition, thanks to the seat patches, they offer you the best convenience and comfort while riding.

These items also protect your legs and knees from other things you might encounter while riding.

Q5: What kind of riding boots should you get?

Wear footwear that has about one and half inch heel and low threads. Adding to this, make sure that the heel and sole are appropriate enough to fit with the stirrups.

Trainers are alright to wear while riding, while hiking boots are big enough to get you stuck in the stirrups.

Make sure that you have reliable riding apparel and not just cheap horse riding clothes. Do not compromise, when it comes to the quality.

Adding to this, it is strongly recommended to check online forums to see what others say. This way, you will shorten your learning curve.

Are you looking for the best dressage horses for sale? Did I tell you that I lost 1000’s of $$$ while searching.

If you are interested to discover how to start learning horse-back riding the easiest way ever, then hurry right now to get this FREE-killer guide at:=> http://dressagehorsesforsaleinfo.org/

Does anyone know where I can get this horse riding hat/helmet???

Recently when at a local showjumping competition, I saw a rider with this really nice riding hat/helmet. It was grey, and like some of the other hats that have the silver strip through the middle of the hat/helmet, the hat had one too. Except it was a baby pink colour.
I would REALLY like to know where I can get this helmet, because I REALLY liked it and have been dying to find it for months!!

I dont know if it is just a grey riding helmet with changeable strip things but if anyone knows what the hat is called or where to get one online, PLEASE let me know!!

thanks

- I am from the UK.
- The hat was solid, no covers.

She may have had it made a cap cover
look up
DOVERS they carry all of that stuff stateline tack also

It is IMPOSSIBLE to find a saddle to fit my horse! advice please?

I own a 7 year old, 14.3 hand draft cross who is literally impossible to fit correctly… It’s like trying to saddle up a potato! I have tried countless saddles on him, even had a saddle fitter come out and reflock my current saddle (which fit the best out of any ive tried) and custom fit it to his back for a hefty price…and now that doesn’t even fit! its a little too tight and likes to slide forward just enough to interfere with his shoulder. Should I give up on english and try to find a western saddle? I feel like a western might be a little easier to fit. Any advice or alternatives for me?

I’ve been bareback for over a month…which I don’t mind, but I feel like I can’t own a horse without a saddle!
i bought a wintec with the widest gullet and it didnt fit right =( it fit in the soulder but sat on him funny, i think the channel down his spine was too narrow

Have you looked into a treeless saddle of some kind? They should fit any horse, and come in both Western and English styles. Here’s a site that carries them: http://www.treelesssaddle.com/ There should be a lot of other suppliers if you search for ‘treeless saddles’, this is just the first that came up and has a wide selection.

Horse Boots……….?

I have a qustion about horse boots…

What are they used for?

I know they are on the horse for a reason.

In all my 7 years of riding my horses have never needed horse boots or wraps

I’ve put wraps on horses before but never asked what they are for so

what are:

Soaking boots
wraps
ankle boots
hock wraps
front boots
hind boots
sport boots
bell boots
ice wraps

what are they used for and why

thanks

Soaking boots- boot to soak your horse’s hoof for abscesses and other inflammations (it’s just easier than keeping the horses foot in a bucket) you usually add epson salt along with warm water into the boot or bucket.

wraps – wraps can be used for different purposes such as for travel in a trailer so the horse doesn’t get cuts on their legs etc. different types of wraps can be used for medical care as well to keep bandages on cuts, etc.

ankle boots – ankle boots protect the ankle from getting sliced by the other hind foot or shoe. If you horse is doing a lot of galloping and jumping, etc

hock wraps – hock wraps are used for injury wrapping or icing the hock

front boots – well, depending on what your talking about they could be boots for trail riding that actually go on the hoof if a horse is shoeless and tender it is always a plus) or for eventing front boots that go around the tendons are just to protect them.

hind boots – basically the same as I wrote for front boots.

sport boots – sport boots do the same, preventing injury and support/protecting the tendons in the horses lower legs if jumping, galloping, etc.

bell boots-these prevent tearing off the shoe of a front hoof when a horse with shoes on over reaches which could cause clipping or pulling the shoe off. trust me this has happened numerous times with my mare and when ever I go galloping or jumping I use them.

ice wraps- to ice the area, keep down swelling of an area, etc.

hope this helped. it was a good refresher for me!

Basics of Distinguishing English Country Style

Do dried flowers and long-lasting family relationships bring back memories of your childhood in a house that was warmed by the love of family? Probabilities are strong that the best style of home design for you is English country; let’s look at how you can impart the beauty of the English countryside to your home:

Start by planting a flower garden outside your home and set potted blossoms near your door. English country styled homes require the presence of blossoms. In reality, floral accents go well beyond the threshold in true English country style. Freshly cut flowers and sweet-smelling blooms overflow from pitchers and vases while hanging wall vases and tree wall art bring the ambience of the outside into the interior.

Wallpaper, don’t paint, the interior walls. Yes, wallpaper. And the design will naturally be floral. What about the accessories? From pictures that depict English horsemanship and the hunt to floral wall art, metal wall decor, and more, this decor style thirsts for accessorizing.

Have the right furnishings. You’d want to have lowboys, highboys, and secretaries exquisitely executed in the flowery and elaborate baroque style, the sofas and armchairs with covers of leather, tweed, velvet, or even needlepoint embroidery. Other accents may include a Queen Anne or Sheraton dining table, or an overstuffed Chesterfield sofa, depending on your budget.

In one corner you might want to have an oak bookshelf with glass doors and brass accents bursting with leather-bound books. Brass, not chrome, is utilized for hardware. High gloss paint is likewise never seen in English country styled houses. Don’t be astounded if you see the wood surfaces featuring a patina that goes with decades of dusting and shining.

English country style evokes a feel of timeless existence, but one which is, at the corresponding time, practical and stylish. The furnishings and even the home itself give the feeling that they have been built to endure. This feeling falls over in everything from the floral motifs to the brass-accented doors.

Color choice is essential. No matter what time of year one enters, a sensation of autumn is in the air, and the smell of wood and leather render a hospitable effect. Rich and dark colors like deep brown, forest green and brown blended with floral and a well-worn homespun look makes you want to lounge for awhile in a finely-upholstered armchair by the fireplace.

A must-have for English country style is a hearth. The conventional fireplace discovered in English country decor gives the homeowner a fresh reason to display aged and well-used brass fireplace instruments. One will frequently discover leather bridles, candles and horse brass displayed to complete the ambience of English country.

The shaping of English country style has been greatly wrought by the British weather. This explains the need to be warm, watertight, and comfortable to counter the chilly weather.
The weather demands that the dwelling be warm, watertight and cozy in order to counter the cool. Thus, comfort is the center of English country style.

Shades or blinds have no place in the true English country styled home. Draperies are utilized, normally corresponding to the wall paper. Just as you will never see blank walls in an English country home, you will not see blinds either.

Have nonfunctional pieces in abundance. Items that look to have been passed down from one generation to the next are ideal. Organized clutter is always the theme in English country homes. It is not surprising and typically expected to see metal wall art, collectibles, and antiques displayed as well. But the home should not be so cluttered that somebody might fear tipping over fine porcelain figures or china exhibited on the tabletops when walking by.

This one’s a bit of a paradox: The do-it-yourselfer might pass by this compressor in favor of an oil-free, no-maintenance model, but it’s actually one of the best on the market for the homeowner, hobbyist and weekend warrior. There are three factors that made us form this opinion. First, it’s the quietest compressor we’ve ever encountered. It’s a remarkable departure …

Horse Riding Apparel

If you are planning to get horse riding apparel, it is good to have some prior knowledge in this area since these items can add up to a significant expenditure. There are several things to consider when it comes to horse riding apparel. Nothing beats functionality combined with style. The rider should look elegant and be comfortable at the same time. Hence, you need to choose materials that are both durable and light. The fabric that is suitable for horse riding apparel should be cool and should absorb moisture. This helps you in remaining comfortable in both a hot as well as a cold climate.

What comprises a complete horse riding apparel? Well, it includes a shirt, a waist coat, breeches or jodhpurs, tall or short riding boots, riding gloves and a riding jacket. The shirt can be cotton and is usually white. The breeches or jodhpurs for the lower body should fit the legs well and protect you from rain and wind. Jodhpurs are close fitting on top and towards the lower parts of the leg so making them more suitable and convenient for riding. Choose a luxurious jacket that is long lasting and stylish.

In the case of riding boots, the tall ones are perfect to wear for competitions and shows, while short ones are comfortable and hard wearing for casual riding or training and are usually worn with half chaps or gaiters. And when it comes to head gear, pick one that fits your head perfectly. This is a very important aspect of horse riding apparel since your head gear protects you from serious injuries to your head. Head gear includes helmets as well as velvet hats, usually depending on the type of event as well as the rider’s preference. It must be pointed out that top hats and beaglers do not offer any safety standard protection as they are manufactured with the minimum materials and no safety harness. Also, do remember to wear gloves of good quality and durability.

When it comes to following the trends, horse riding apparel provides the most scope and opportunity. Any new apparel worn by riders for shows and competitions quickly becomes available for others to purchase. Recently there has been a movement towards the softer shades of blue, green and purple which have become very popular. Breeches in white or other light colours are chosen by the majority of riders. In the case of show coats, the tendency is to go for darker shades like navy or black, although there are riders who prefer brown or khaki. Riders sometimes choose coats with stripes or patterns instead of plain ones.

As for accessories, when it comes to shows and competitions, you can use glittery items like stock pins and jewelry. Belts and helmets with crystals attached are also becoming a popular element of horse riding apparel. However, for casual riding and training, these accessories are not seen. They should be reserved for those extra special occasions.

Help with leaking Troy-bilt Horse seals?

Hello. I have a Troy-bilt Horse that was my Grandfather’s. It had been stored outside for as long as I can remember, and seemed froze up. It was also leaking oil like crazy. After removing the belts, the engine turned over with decent compression. I replaced all the bearings and seals in the transmission, and did a tune-up on the Tecumseh and it now works great. My family has used it two seasons since. It is still leaking some oil at both the axles and the back of the tiller shaft. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? I cleaned the housings out with a nice white rag, then pressed the seals in; no silicone or anything. It doesn’t leak as bad but it irritates me that I have to park it over cardboard. What did I miss?

Ordinary parafin wax, the kind that is used in home canning works well in sealing the shaft seals on most Roto tiller transmissions and small equipment such as what you have.

Go to grocery store and buy a few cakes of Parafin Wax, then take a kitchen cheese shredder and shred up about a cup of that parafin wax. Add that to the crankcase and that will after a one time usage seal off those end bearing in fine fashion for you.
