2011 Pacific Classic Contenders – Some of the Best Horses Ready to Compete

The field for the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar just added two more contenders, Don Cavallo, the winner of the Dominion Day Stakes at Woodbine, and Achak, who is coming off an allowance win.

The Dominion Day Stakes was run over a Polytrack surface at Woodbine, so Don Cavallo may have an additional advantage of having raced over the same type of surface over which the Pacific Classic will be run. In addition, the Dominion Day Stakes was run at 1 ¼ miles, so he has the experience with the distance. Don Cavallo is a four year old horse owned by Frank Stronach and trained by Roger Attfield. His record over synthetic tracks is three out of four.

Achak was running in the claiming ranks as recently as July 23, 2011, his most recent claiming effort being only a third place finish in a $35,000 claiming event at 1 mile over the Del Mar turf. He came back in his next race to take an Allowance optional claming event at 10-1 odds over the Del Mar Polytrack by half a length. He seems to be improving but he will still be a big long shot for the Grade 1 Pacific Classic, and his owner Mark Verge will be thrilled just to hit the board, and no wonder, a small cut of a $1 million purse is still very substantial.

Achak is a five year old trained by Doug O’Neill and has won nine of thirty one starts. He does have some stakes experience, having finished fifth in the Grade 3 Native Diver on December 4, 2010 at Hollywood Park.

The field of probably contenders includes the second and third place finishers in the Hollywood Gold Cup, Game on Dude and Twirling Candy. The champion three year old filly Blind Luck is going to take a shot against the boys but is not definite. She is also under consideration for the Personal Ensign Stakes at Saratoga as well as the Molly Pitcher at Monmouth, according to her trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. Other contenders include Acclamation, Jeronimo, and Caracortado, the top three finishers from the Eddie Read Stakes, a Grade 1 1-1/8 mile turf race.

Tres Borrachos is also being considered for the race. He is coming off an impressive victory as a mild 8-1 long shot in the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap.

Other contenders may include Setsuko, Stately Victor, Spurrier, Tres Borrachos, and Victory Pete.

The winner gains an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Challenge as part of the “Win and You’re In” program.

The Pacific Classic will be run on August 28th.

How to Become a Horse Trainer Apprentice?

I was wondering if anybody would know of any horse trainers in San Diego CA or outside of CA who would be willing to take an apprentice trainer. My long term goal is to raise and train my own animals Domestic/ Exotic for film, photo and commercial work. This also includes horses the only problem is that I have zip riding experiance riding horses. But I figured the best way to learn is from the ground up. This probably wont look good with most trainers but my initial interest is in stunt training and general behaviors that would be required of horses on a set. As well as skills in general training, gentling etc. So if you know of any horse trainers in my area who would be interested in helping me get a start I would highly appreciate it.

If you don’t have any experience riding horses, the best thing you can do right now is take riding lessons. Most trainers won’t take you on as an apprentice unless you have a high enough level of riding experience. I would also start emailing companies that do stunt work with animals and see what their recommendations would be. If you can, read through biographies and resumes of animal stunt workers and see what their backgrounds are, and that will also give you an idea of where to get started.

Internet Viruses – What Are They? and Why Should I Care?

Whether you are considering the many free antivirus programs available or subscription based options, each of them can help protect you from the threats found on the internet. What are some of these threats? and how can they harm you?

Malware; is software that enters into your computer without your knowledge, has been in existence since the 1970s. Types of malware include viruses, worms, spyware, trojan horses, and any other program intended to harm your computer or steal your data. These threats can be found on websites, inside email, email attachments and potentially anything downloaded from the internet.

In 1971, the Creeper virus written by Bob Thomas was found on ARPANET, a then little know technology later to become the world wide web. Once Creeper gained access to your computer system, a harmless message appeared on the screen saying “I’m the creeper catch me if you can”. Elk Cloner was the first Apple virus created in 1981 as a practical joke. Next was the first PC virus called Brain in 1986 which was designed to prevent software piracy.

Although these viruses were written out of curiosity and fun, these innocent intentions soon gave way to malicious computer programming.

Spyware for example is designed to monitor your browsing habits, which then causes unsolicited advertisements known as “pop-ups” to appear on your computer screen.

Some other examples of malicious programming include software designed to take control of your computer system and make them part of a network of computers known as a “BOT” Network.

A BOT network (short for robot) can range in the millions of infected computers and be remotely controlled. Bot networks can be used for profit in many ways, including sending out mass amounts of email otherwise known as spam.

Computer viruses have the unique ability to copy themselves into the computer and quickly spread throughout a network, infecting hundreds if not thousands of computers. It accomplishes this by way of an executable file embedded into an already existing program. An unsuspecting user clicks on the file and downloads the virus.

Computer worms like viruses also can copy themselves, however, unlike computer viruses they do not require user intervention or to be embedded in an existing program to spread. Instead they take advantage of the computers missing or out-of-date security program.

A Trojan horse, is like the Trojan Horse story of Greek mythology which used deception to enter into the guarded city of Troy. This usually is done by packaging the malicious payload with something desirable like a picture, calendar, or music download. When the user installs the desired program it also downloads and installs the malicious program. Trojan horses can delete files and install backdoors.

The internet like the world is full of the good, the bad and the ugly. That’s why it’s essential to be aware of the hazards and to have an up-to-date antivirus program installed and running on your computer.

Even as a child in the horse world, Monty Roberts was uncomfortable with the conventional method of breaking, or training, a horse. He competed in rodeos for 22 years, all the while searching for a better way. Eventually, he learned it from the horses themselves. By watching wild mustangs, Roberts was able to identify some of their body language and apply it himself. A good portion of this 48-min…

Instead of using conventional procedures, Monty persuades an unbroken horse to accept a saddle, bridle and rider in approximately 30 minutes without pain or fear, something traditionalists view as impossible. The goal is to create a foundation of trust and instill an understanding of what behavior man desires from the young animal that will carry him throughout his life….

A Really Powerful Punch Technique From Korean Karate!

This Korean Karate trick is one of the simplest and most deadly moves you will ever find. As simple as it is, it requires exquisite timing, and a number of little bits and pieces of which I am about to tell you. Understanding these fine points, and working on the thing a bit, and you are going to have one of the most powerful punches in your martial arts arsenal.

I discovered this trick in the form which is sometimes called Heian Five, it happens right after you execute a crescent kick and low block. You are now standing in a horse stance, and you swing the right arm across the body to cover the left side of the body with a palm block. You then perform a left fist to the left, and that is what I have labeled the power punch.

You can do this move right out of the form, and it will work with plenty of power. But there are ways to tweak it to make even more power, and to make it even more workable. And we want more workable, because we want to understand this technique so well that we can use it on the street.

Have your partner stand in front of you, handshake apart. Have him step forward with his right leg and punch to your face with his right hand. You step back with your left foot into a back stance as you do a palm block with your left hand, this causes your partner’s right hand to pass in front of you, and this sets up his body for the counterpunch.

To do the counterpunch, turn your body and feet into a horse stance as you extend your right fist to his ribcage. Now, this has got to be done quick and sharp, and you have to drop your weight and pop those hips, and you are going to find that this technique, if executed correctly, is going to smash his ribs to smithereens. In addition, if you happen to use a little precision, you can stick your fingers directly into his armpit.

The thing is that you must have perfect CBM, Coordinated Body Motion. This means that all body parts move at the same time and in harmony. Thus, you strike with a couple of hundred pounds of mass (assuming you weigh a couple of hundred pounds), and not twenty pounds of arm.

In addition, you must set the stance at the exact and correct distance so that your arm is nearly straightened out, only has a couple of inches to extend, when you make contact. If you decide to use the fingers, go slower, and add fingertip push ups to your work outs. If you decide to go deep, you can set your legs so that your punched out arm can sweep him over your horse.

I always found this to be a wonderful move, quick and easy, and I love the feeling of moving in quick and light and then dropped the deep power into the last oomph of the punch. The damage to that mugger is going to be considerable, and the move is very usable on the street, and can be adjusted as one needs. The official label for this move, in my system, which is a slight modification of Korean Karate, is The Power Punch, hope you enjoy it.

Who is a Clinton Anderson fan?

I learned the jist of his training methods but I really want to see the training DVD personally and I was thinking of buying one of his DVDs. The thing is, I don’t know which one to buy….

My horse’s biggest problem are his ground manners and understanding who’s the boss. I do have help with my one trainer but my horse respects HIM not ME. I’d like to get firsthand knowledge and learn for myself seeing the actual pro do it himself and see if I can learn better that way…

I’ve been researching the DVDs online and a few of them sound really good but I don’t know which one to get! Does anyone have any experience with him and the training?

There are a few things he does that I agree with. Most of what he does is similar to my way of training. I can take a little of my way and toss in a little of his to get the desired result.
There are a few things I don’t like so don’t bother with them. For the most part though I enjoy watching him.

Respect and manners on the ground is first and foremost.
If you are looking for one of his DVDs on this:

I have bookmarked a list of other trainers that are the Natural Horsemanship similar to Clinton if you want them. Ground Training though is where you want to start…respect on the ground

Friesian Horse

Spelling and usage

In English, the word indicating origin from the Friesland region is typically spelled “Frisian.” However, the alternative spelling with an extra “e” is used for Friesian cattle. During much of the history of the Friesch Paarden Stamboek breed registry, most breeders of the horses also were breeders of dairy cattle and the same spelling was also used for both breeds, particularly by English-language breeding societies and registries. However, the spelling “Frisian” is often used in other contexts.

Breed characteristics

A Friesian stallion in show stance

The Friesian is most often recognized by its black coat color, though color alone is not their only distinguishing characteristic. Friesian horses also have a long, thick mane and tail, often wavy, and “feathers”–long, silky hair on the lower legs, deliberately left untrimmed. The official breed rarely has white markings of any kind; most registries allow only a small star on the forehead for purebred registration. Though extremely rare, and not accepted for registration in most cases, Friesians are occasionally chestnut. The Friesian’s average height is about 15.3 hands (63 inches or 1.60 m), although it may vary from 14.2 to 17 hands (between 58 in./1.5 m and 68 in./1.7 m) tall at the withers, and mares or geldings must be at least 15.2 hands (1.57 m) tall to qualify for a ’star-designation’ pedigree. The breed is known for a brisk, high-stepping trot. The Friesian is considered a willing, active, and energetic horse that is also gentle and docile. A Friesian tends to have great presence and to carry itself with elegance.

The breed has powerful overall conformation and good bone structure, with what is sometimes called a “Baroque” body type. Friesians have long, arched necks and well-chiseled, short-eared, “Spanish type” heads. Their sloping shoulders are quite powerful. They have compact, muscular bodies with strong sloping hindquarters and a low-set tail. Their limbs are comparatively short and strong. To be accepted as breeding stock in the FPS studbook, a stallion must pass a rigorous approval process.

Today, there are two distinct conformation types. The baroque type has the more robust build of the classical Friesian. The modern, sport horse type is finer-boned. Conformation type is judged less important than correct movement, and both types are common, though the Modern type is currently more popular in the show ring than is the Baroque Friesian.

History of the Friesian

A historic image of Alva 113, Friesian stallion

The breed was developed in the province of Friesland in the northern Netherlands, where there is evidence of thousands of years of horse populations, and this breed is said to have descended from the primitive Forest Horse. It is also said that Romans obtained ancestors of the Friesian horse for riding and also took them to England, where the breed type may have influenced the Shire horse, Clydesdale, Fell Pony and Dales Pony.

Ancestors of the modern Friesians were used in medieval times to carry knights to battle. In the 12th and 13th centuries, some eastern horses of crusaders were mated with Friesian stock. During the 16th and 17th centuries, when the Netherlands were shortly linked with Spain, there was less demand for heavy war horses as battle arms changed, Andalusian blood was added, lightening its weight and thereby rendering it more suitable (in terms of less food intake and waste output) for work as a more urban carriage horse. Friesians were also used by riding schools in France and Spain for high-school dressage, and they remain popular today for their gentle temperaments and proud appearance.

The historian Ann Hyland wrote of the Friesian breed:

The Emperor Charles (reigned 1516-56) continued Spanish expansion into the Netherlands, which had its Frisian warhorse, noted by Vegetius and used on the continent and in Britain in Roman times. Like the Andalusian, the Frisian bred true to type. Even with infusions of Spanish blood during the sixteenth century, it retained its indigenous characteristics, taking the best from both breeds. The Frisian is mentioned in 16th and 17th century works… a courageous horse eminently suitable for war, lacking the volatility of some breeds or the phlegm of very heavy ones. Generally black, the Frisian was around 15hh with strong, cobby conformation, but with a deal more elegance and quality. The noted gait was a smooth trot coming from powerful quarters. Nowadays, though breed definition is retained, the size has markedly increased, as has that of most breeds due to improved rearing and dietary methods.

The breed was especially popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, when they were not only in demand as harness horses and for agricultural work, but also for the trotting races then so popular. The Friesian may have been used as foundation stock for breeds such as the Dole Gudbrandsdal, the Norfolk Trotter (ancestor of the Hackney), and the Morgan. In the 1800s the Friesian was bred to be lighter and faster for trotting, however this led to what some owners and breeders regarded as inferior stock, so a movement to return to pureblood stock took place by the end of the century.

A Studbook Society was founded in 1879 by Frisian farmers and land owners who had gathered to found the Friesian Cattle Registry (FRS).[citation needed] The Paardenstamboek (“Stud book”) was published in 1880 and initially registered both Friesian horses and a group of heavy warmblood breeds, including East Friesians and Oldenburgers, collectively known as “Bovenlanders.” At the time, the Friesian horse was declining in numbers, and being replaced by the more fashionable Bovenlanders, both directly and by crossbreeding Bovenlander stallions on Friesian mares. This had already virtually exterminated the pure Friesian in significant parts of the province in 1879, which made the inclusion of Bovenlanders necessary. While the work of the registry produced a revival of the breed’s popularity in the late 19th century, it also resulted in the sale and disappearance of many of the best stallions from the breeding area, and Friesian horse populations dwindled. By the very early 20th century until the number of breeding stallions was down to three.[citation needed] Therefore, in 1906, the two parts of the registry were joined, and the studbook was renamed the Friesch Paarden Stamboek (FPS) in 1907.”

Friesian horses are sometimes referred to as “Belgian Blacks”

In 1913, a society known as the Het Friesch Paard was founded, dedicated to the protection and promotion of the breed. By 1915 the group convinced FPS to split the registries back up into two groups. By 1943, the breeders of non-Friesian horses left the FPS entirely to form an entirely separate registry which later became the Koninklijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland (Royal Warmblood Studbook of the Netherlands (KWPN).

Displacement by petroleum-powered farm equipment on dairy farms also was a threat to the survival of Friesian horse. The last draught function performed by Friesians on a significant scale was to work on farms that raised dairy cattle. World War II slowed down the process of displacement, allowing the breed’s population and popularity to rebound. Important in the initial stage of the breed’s rebound was the circus of the Strassburger family, who, having fled Nazi Germany for the Low Countries, discovered the show qualities of the breed and demonstrated its abilities outside of its local breeding area during and after the Nazi occupation.[citation needed]

Today, there are three modern bloodlines: Tetman 205, Age 168, and Ritske 202. Each of these sires trace their blood to Paulus 121, who was born in 1913 and entered into the Studbook in 1916. He in turn can be traced back three more generations to the original 19th century Studbook foundation sire, Nemo 51, born in 1885. All purebred Friesians trace back to these bloodlines.

The Friesian today

A Friesian in surcingle, showing at the trot

From the latter part of the 20th century until the present, demand for purebreds, particularly the “Modern style” finer-boned, taller, more agile version of the Friesian increased, so breeders have bred both purebreds and a lighter-weight crossbred horse with valued characteristics, resulting in the Frieisan cross and Friesian Sporthorse.

Friesian horses are popular in both Europe and the United States, and are often used today for Dressage competition, pleasure riding, and driving. Friesian horses can do well in dressage competition due to the breed’s movement, trainability, appearance, power, and body control.

Closeup of the head

The Friesian also remains popular as a carriage horse, as it is a powerful horse and its high-stepping action is eye-catching. It is particularly popular in competitions that require the driving of a team, partly because of its movement and disposition, and partly because it is easy to match teams of black horses. Friesians are also good all-around horses, used for showing, driving, and general riding, and are also used as circus horses.

Due to its flashy appearance, the Friesian has become popular in the film industry. The breed owes much of its current popularity to the appearance of the Friesian stallion Goliath (real name: Othello) in the 1985 film, Ladyhawke, which ignited a worldwide interest in these horses. Films such as Eragon, The Mask of Zorro, Alexander and The Chronicles of Narnia have also featured Friesian horses. An episode of the popular TV series Lost featured a Friesian/Saddlebred cross. Though they are of dramatic appearance, sometimes their use in dramatizations of actual historical events is of dubious accuracy, given that the breed as it is known today only came into being within the last 400 to 600 years.

What are some good horse starting books?

I just bought a 2 year old gelding that so far is broke and has tons of western pleasure training. My trainer will work with him most of the time but I would like to work a little bit with him too.

This book was required reading for the colts in training class I had to take: “True Horsemanship Through Feel” by Bill Dorrance and Leslie Desmond. You could also try the book “There Are No Problem Horses, Only Problem Riders” by Mary Twelveponies. For working on balance and horsemanship, Sally Swift’s “Centered Riding” books 1 & 2 are rather good.

Horse Heaven Jane Smiley

Horse Heaven

Jane Smiley

In ‘Horse Heaven’ the universe of horse racing is woven into a marvellous tapestry of joy and love, chicanery, folly, greed and reckless courage. Spanning two years on the circuit, from Kentucky and California to New York and Paris, Jane Smiley’s wonderful novel puts us among trainers and track brats, horse-obsessed girls, nervy jockeys, billionaire breeders and restless track wives.
“The world of horse-racing has never been portrayed to such spellbinding effect.”
That quote from the ‘Tatler’ review illustrates the depth and breadth of this fascinating novel and explains why it is regarded as one of the great horse books of all time.
A rich tapestry of human and animal characters, ‘Booklist’ described it as “a symphonic celebration of the byzantine world of thoroughbred horse racing, an electrifying and at times melodramatic tale of two years on the thoroughbred racing circuit with a wealth of intimate knowledge about horse breeding, training and racing, not to mention sensuous description and supple human and equine psychology.”
In following the racing careers of five thoroughbreds, the novel encompasses all the thrills, heartaches and excitement of horse racing at the highest level. The horses are the stars but are supported by a myriad of fascinating human characters: owners, trainers, stud farm managers, jockeys, vets, grooms and gamblers. There are as many intriguing stories in this work as there are in a rich human life and are woven together brilliantly in a breathtakingly sustained piece of writing. Readers are kept exhilarated right up to the finishing line.
‘The Financial Times’ concluding its review says: “You will never regret having read this book and you will, even if you care nothing for horses, begin to understand why those who live by and for them, do so.”
A fitting tribute to a literary masterpiece.

Released in early 1969, Neil Young’s first solo album is essentially an extension of “Broken Arrow” and “Expecting to Fly,” his two most inventive contributions to Buffalo Springfield. Jack Nitzsche arranged and produced several of the tracks, fusing haunting strings and even funky female backing vocals to acoustic-oriented songs like “Here We Are in the Years” and “The Old Laughing Lady.” “The Lo…

If Neil Young has a pronounced weakness, it’s a lack of focus. Restless to a fault, he’s apt to rush into the recording studio without fully forming his ideas. Sleeps with Angels is that kind of album–and yet it’s one of his best. Jarred by the death of Kurt Cobain (the rock & roll martyr quoted Young in his suicide note), he dashed off this collection of songs in 1994 with backing from his stead…

Don’t worry about it. People get over that silly stuff. Especially if you show that it doesn’t effect you much.

Although it blithely rewrites the history of a legendary race horse, The Story of Seabiscuit is still an appealing example of Technicolor entertainment from Hollywood’s studio system. It wasn’t unusual for contract players (in this case Shirley Temple, Barry Fitzgerald, and Lon McAllister) to play fictional characters in fact-based stories, since factual fidelity was often considered a secondary p…

According to an expert of the English language, the most frequently used English noun is the word ‘way’. However, in horse training the most frequently used word is ‘whoa’. It is important to be aware of the words we use in training our horses and what meaning we attach to them. We must be careful not to teach our horse to do something based on a verbal command that is not what we want them to do.

“Whoa”, frequently falls into the confused and misunderstood category. People often make simple errors with the word ‘whoa’. For example, a person’s riding along and the horse picks up speed, and a high percentage of riders will say ‘whoa’. However, what the rider really means to say is ’slow down’, but they pull on the reins and say ‘whoa’, and so the horse does not really learn what you mean by ‘whoa’, what he learns is that ‘whoa’ means he is about to get a jab in the mouth from the bit.

The horse fails to learn that ‘whoa’ means stop. Now he may slow down from the verbal signal of ‘whoa’ and the jab in the mouth, and if he does and the rein pressure is then released, he will learn that ‘whoa’ means slow down, which is not what you really want from the word ‘whoa’.

Soon when you want him to stop and you’re pulling and getting mad because he’s not stopping, you will have a confused horse under you. A confused horse is a horse that doesn’t trust, and trust is a very important tool that needs to exist between you and your horse. It is important to distinguish between when a horse does what you ask for and when they do it because they a re unsure o confused and happen upon the correct result. The prior is termed a response and the later is termed a reaction, and you want a response rather than a reaction, and you get a response through the development of trust.

To get trust, there has to be a reward system, and a certain amount of respect. Remember, be careful not to confuse your horse, as confusion leads to fear and fear gets you a reaction, but trust gets you a response.

http://everythingbutthehorse.net

I have trained and bred Arabian horses for over twenty years and have developed my skills through the guidance and philosophies of some of the greatest ‘natural horseman’ of their day. I have been influenced by such greats as Monty Roberts, Tom Dorrance and Ray Hunt. I only endorse techniques in horse training that comply with the philosophy that ‘violence is never the answer’.

http://everythingbutthehorse.net

Training/ Riding with just leads snapped to the sides of a halter?

I am training my horse to ride, and I don’t want to use a bit. I’ve heard a hackamore isn’t good for training, so I wanted to know if anyone just uses two leadropes for training or riding.

Definitely don’t use a hackamore, they are very dangerous and can break your horse’s jaw.
If I were you, I would (on the ground) teach your horse lateral flexion with a halter and rope. (its best to hook your rope to the side for the first couple times, its easier for them to understand, then when they get good there, move it to the ring under their chin)
When they get good at bending around with the halter and rope, get a plain training snaffle bit and do the same thing again, you can leave it on them for a couple hours a day if they have a major problem with it.
You definitely want to get a bit in their mouth and let them understand what “turn” means well before you ever get on their back. But teaching them with a halter and rope first is good because it will keep them softer when you go to a bit. Don’t let anyone tell you that a horse is too soft on the bit, I don’t think it’s possible. LOL
Some other training tips before you get on, is to do some basic ground driving. The goal is to have them “broke” before you ever get on, but don’t waste time, you shouldn’t have to do ground work for more than 3 days (for a really smart horse) or 5 days (for the slower ones
The best way a horse learns is to do things in sets of three, three pulls to one side, three to the next, three sets then a break, three days in a row then a day off. Things seem to sink in a lot better when you do it in sets of three, don’t know why.

Athletic and Sports Field Lighting

RLL Design athletic and sports field lighting can be used to light any type of arena, stadium, playing field, or sports center. Similar to floodlights, they can be mounted on metal or wooden poles to provide evenly distributed, glare free lighting of game areas, spectator stands, concession areas, and areas leading from the parking lot to the stands. RLL Design athletic and sports field lights feature multi-tap ballast control in voltages of 120, 208, 240, 277, and even 408V. Athletic and sports field lighting fixtures can either be 400 or 1500 watts in strength. With such a diversity, lighting design professionals and DIY installers can build a custom sports lighting system specific to the dimensions of their facility. Such a system will use power more efficiently and produce optimal foot-candles and color rendering for nighttime arena activity.

Certain types of athletic field lighting kits can be obtained from RLL Design. These kits have been pre-configured by lighting design experts on our staff who combine their knowledge of technology with their awareness of the needs of particular, individual sports. DIY clients can benefit greatly by investing in these kits, as each kit represents a singe purchase solution to the complex demands of an entire facility. Professional contractors can save time and money doing research into local light control regulations and calculations of necessary footcandle minimums. By working in partnership with an RLL Design specialist, all of this information can be readily passed to the contractor at the time of purchase. Professionals can assure their clients that the sports lighting kits they propose meet with all safety requirements for a particular game and dark sky laws intended to limit light pollution in various areas.

DIY lighting installers can rely on RLL Design’s trained team of experts to educate them in all pertinent light pollution laws, and to calculate optimal lighting levels needed for your athletic field. This makes your ultimate choice of a lighting kit or custom lighting system more seamless, as our consulting process will quickly determine which poles, mounts, and fixture types are most needed to fulfill your requirements. This reservoir of knowledge represents a professional level skill set available to the end user at the time of purchase at no additional charge. Extensive, ongoing consultation can also be arranged if necessary for a small, reasonable fee.

When looking to obtain sports field lighting fixture, poles, and accessories in any of the following athletic environments, it is best for both professional designers and DIY installers to rely on experts familiar with safety, power savings, and light pollution laws in order to avoid wasting time and possibly miscalculating one or two line items and buying the wrong equipment.

Soccer Field Lighting

Soccer field sports lighting depends a great deal on the height of the poles you choose, which is why RLL Design inventories a wide range of poles and pole mounting accessories so you can position your athletic field lights at that appropriate levels. RLL Design will assess the dimensions of your field, the nature of the surrounding property, and the lighting requirements in your community. We will then combine this data and develop the schematic for your soccer field lighting system. This makes choosing fixtures, mounts, and poles much more efficient and cost effective for both the professional and DIY installer alike.

Baseball Field Lighting

RLL Design baseball lighting fixtures feature sophisticated optics and advanced reflectors that generate superior lumens per watt output in comparison to competing models. The advantage this offers becomes immediately clear when smaller facilities and organizations can invest in smaller sports lighting fixtures and achieve the same results as inferior grade fixtures operating at higher wattages and temperatures. Professional designers can point out that safer conditions and more efficient use of power carry a built-in return on investment, giving their proposal stronger negotiating power when bidding on jobs for municipalities, little league associations, churches, and summer camps.

Softball Field Lighting

Softball field athletic lighting fixtures feature advanced anodized reflectors in 2, 4, 5, or 6 optic measurements engineered to increase lumens per watt output. This brings a competitive advantage to situations where clients are operating on tight budgets. Often, recreational softball fields require only 400W fixtures strategically positioned for effective lighting. This energy efficiency of a lower wattage system allows contractors to win bids in even the most competitive environments, and opens the doors for them to service everyone from small churches, rural school districts, and homeowners associations.

Volleyball Court Lighting

Most recreational volleyball courts can be lit with a general area sports lighting kit. Fixtures feature high-pressure sodium lights that provide excellent illumination and also work to repel insects. Clients who cannot afford custom lighting system design can still light their recreational courts with RLL Design’s helpful experts and prefab volleyball lighting kits.

Basketball Court Lighting

Metal Halide sports lights from RLL Design can make any basketball court look like a professional, all-star court regardless of size or location. Basketball court lights feature 400W and 1000W forward die cast fixtures, Davit style mounting brackets, and mounting hardware and base cover. With the help of an RLL Design expert, both professionals and DIY lighting installers can custom build a sports lighting system for any outdoor basketball court. Professionals can streamline their proposals with expert advice and special athletic lighting kits designed for recreational, half-sized, and full-size basketball courts, or they can custom design systems for any client by purchasing fixtures, mounts, and a wide variety of light poles separately with the help of their RLL Design representative.

Rodeo & Horse Arena Lighting

Horse arena and rodeo lights come in 400W and 1000W MH lamps that feature a powder coated die cast housing with a formed aluminum lid. Made to weather extremes of temperature in all US geographies, these full cutoff sports lighting fixtures also feature tempered flat glass lenses and gaskets with clamp band glare shielding. Engineered for flexibility in lighting design, equestrian sports lighting fixtures can be customized separately or purchased in a variety of kits for DIY installation.

Golf Course & Driving Range Lighting

RLL Design golf lights feature Solite-tempered, impact resistant glass. Halogen lamps provide clear lighting of greens throughout all hours of the night. Longer bulb life of up to 10,000 hours minimizes replacement costs, and added value comes to high-end clients who can adjust the level of lighting themselves to create soft lighting or even seasonal lighting effects for special events and holidays.

Football Field Lighting Fixtures

Football field athletic lighting fixtures feature lamps made of fine, tempered glass. Because football field lighting systems are normally highly individualized, RLL Design provides a wide variety of poles with 2, 3, or 4 light angle cross arm bars to build custom lighting systems. More precision in building custom systems with the help of RLL Design professional results in greater control of light pollution and minimal glare for players and spectators. RLL Design specialists are experts in foot-candle plotting and can even help you design an athletic field lighting system for a multi-function facility so you or your client can enjoy year-round use of the grounds during the off-season.

Tennis Court Lighting

Tennis court lighting kits are designed by RLLD sports lighting experts to produce optimal footcandle levels and excellent color rendering. A variety of optical systems and sophisticated reflectors keep the light centered in the court and avoid spilling it into surrounding buildings and homes. A wide range of poles allows for precise positioning of tennis lights to allow you to clearly see both the court and the ball in play. Custom systems can also be developed with the help of an RLL Design consultant to ensure full compliance of United States Tennis Court and Track Building Association.

The History Of Horses And Texas

When you say the word horses a few places come to mind, Montana, Wyoming, but none as much as Texas. Texas and its horses have quite a history. In this article we will introduce you to a little Texas history and the horses that are involved.

First, we have to go into a little Mexican and Spanish History. Texas was, for a long time, under Spanish rule. Spain ruled Mexico and Mexico ruled Texas you might say.

Spain’s introduction of warfare on horseback is very well known. The horse helped the Conquistadors conquer more and more territory throughout South America. Their territory once extended from Peru and Argentina all the way up into Texas and Louisiana.

Most of the groups the warriors from Spain encountered had no horses and were at a huge disadvantage in battle. The image we always see of the Spanish Soldier is one of him in armor and on horseback.

Another image that is conjured up when mentioning horses and Texas is Indians on horseback. What many do not know is that the Indians in Texas had no horses until they were brought in during Spanish rule of the area. Most hoses the Indians rode were ones stolen from settlers and soldiers after seeing the advantage the soldiers had over them.

When Mexicans first began to settle in Texas around where the Friars built their missions to bring religion to the Indians, most of them didn’t bring horses either. People walked hundreds of miles to get to where they would eventually settle and build their homes. Many had mules or donkeys, but few had horses.

It was the same for those who came from various places within the new United States. They came by boat to New Orleans many times, but then had a long walk to get to their new Texas home where the Mexican government was giving land away for free.

The settlers soon discovered there were wild horses in Texas. What we now call Mustangs were abundant and were free if you could catch them and train them. These horses were not as big as other horses, but they were very sturdy and strong animals that became a huge part of Texas history.

You have to see it how it was then. There was not that much actual cash money to be had anywhere in Texas. There was free land if you were willing to go there and claim it. There were free horses if you were willing to catch and train them. There were even free cattle if you were willing to round them up, the Texas Longhorn.

So many settlers made the long trek to Texas, converted to Catholicism, which was required by the Mexican government if you wanted free land, then captured and trained free Mustangs, which they then used to round up the free cattle.

It sounds great, huh? Just go grab some free land, free horses, and free cattle and you were on your way! Not exactly. It was a very rough life. One that not many people today could even fathom. There was not many people in Texas, some Indian tribes did not want settlers there and showed it through violent attacks, and the work was hard.

To make money from the cattle or horses that were collected they had to be driven all the way to New Orleans for sale. This drive took months to accomplish. The travel we do today spoils our ability to understand the way it was for these settlers.

Some of them spent more than a year traveling to find where they and their families would settle. They then spent at least another year building their house and gathering the horses and cattle that might make up their rancho. Then figure at least a 6 month round trip to sell cattle or horses just to make enough money to buy supplies that were not available free on the Texas range.

The Mustang Horse proved to be one of the best horses for soldiers. It was sturdy enough to handle the rough terrain that larger horses could not handle. They could go without water longer than other horses. They were not skittish when it came to gunfire and battle.

The Texas Rangers rode Mustangs while roaming Texas in search of Banditos and Outlaws. Many men riding Mustangs fought the Battle of San Jacinto. The Apache Indians used them somewhat, but the fierce Comanche Indians had many Mustangs and were some of the greatest horsemen to ever live anywhere. But that is another story.

I hope this short article gave you at least a glimpse into where horses in Texas came from and how they were used. Look in your favorite search engine for more about the Mustangs that still run free today and for more about Texas history and horses. You’ll find the topic interesting and entertaining.

Horse Racing Software – Taking Advantage Of The Horse Racing System Software

Horse Racing Software

All attention is on the software that excellently finishes the task as horse racing betting becomes automated. What makes the software beloved? It is the fact that novices or those who are numerically-challenged can bet with confidence applying the results of the software. Even those expert with the calculator no longer needs to depend on wild guesses.

You can bet on any horse racing derby by Betfair anywhere in the world with the correct software. You no longer need to go over numbers to assess the odds. You can set the software on autopilot and it will do the job for you, providing you everyday selections by the buckets.

A few software are all publicity and don’t deliver what they promise. If you purchase a software without a money-back guarantee that’s also untested, this is the danger you have to take. It is expected that you will judge all software because of such a negative experience. Fortunately, there is software that profits and even has a money-back guarantee.
It is just a case of installing the perfect software in your PC. As soon as it’s done, the software’s numerical algorithms can do the job for you. However, do take note of these points before you get swept away: Horse Racing Software

* Formulate a staking plan that is realistic.
* You pay the price for your income stream.
* Prioritize household expenses.
* Your bets determine the money you make.
* Have a separate budget for horse racing betting.

The horse racing software requires capital like other efforts for extra income. Aside from the software, you have to have the wherewithal to operate your betting system to double your bank. To win the thousands of pounds you are imagining, your betting money have to be proportionate to win that much.

Exhausting work such as the analysis of the Daily Racing Form is eliminated by the software.

You only need to check your bank at day’s end because the software will do the job for you with precision.

Seasoned gamblers advice exercising prudence in the betting game, so whatever your game, formulate your betting system realistically. They move in for the jugular when they’ve set aside sufficient funds for living expenses for the month, adding more confidence to their betting. Indeed, they exercise caution over their betting money to earn lots of money.

Make the most out of your horse racing software by choosing the ideal tipster service. Obviously, a money-back guarantee is a benefit, just in case. Horse Racing Software
