Show Jumping Exercises – Trotting Poles

Start to teach your horse to jump with these trotting poles exercises. When you are teaching your horse to do showjumping, they must develop an ‘eye for a stride’ so they know where to put their feet without falling over so it is a great idea to start with trotting poles.

What are trotting poles?

Trotting poles are often a set of 4-6 showjumping rails that are laid out at ground level. Generally, they are used to trot over. Of course, if your horse is just starting out, you can walk over the poles. Then progress to trotting your horse over the poles. And later in your training, and with an adjusted distance, you could canter over the poles

Do they become ‘canter poles’ then?!

Trotting poles are used at various distances to develop a series of training exercises for both horse and rider. Plain rails can be used but the colours of showjumping rails are an ideal introduction to the world of showjumping for your horse.

Do you use something different or something else as trotting poles in your training?

Why use trotting poles before you start show-jumping?

As a rider, trotting poles are good to:

Improve your balance as a rider

Improve your rhythm in your riding

Find a focus and an ‘eye’ for distance

Develop the discipline of riding a line (for showjumping)

Be able to ride and adjust your horse’s stride

For your horse, trotting poles are good to:

Improve their balance as a horse carrying a rider

Improve their rhythm and ability to lift off the ground

Give your horse confidence in approaching an obstacle

Develop their jumping style for showjumping

Find a focus when approaching their next obstacle

Develop an ability to adjust their stride

So you can see why trotting poles are so important before you start showjumping.

How do you set up a series of trotting poles that are good for your horse’s training?

Find 4-6 showjumping rails that you can use as a set to make trotting poles. Most times if you start with a distance of 1.4 metres between the rails you will be pretty close to an ‘average’ horses trot stride.

Of course if you already know you are riding a pony you could start at 1.1 metres or if you are riding a big warmblood horse you could start off from 1.5 metres. From where ever you start, know that you are aiming for your horse to go forward in trot with an even rhythm and no change in tempo. Your horse should place a hoofprint halfway between the rails. Adjust the distance between the rails to suit your horses stride. Feel the different trot strides that your horse has.

It is important to find your horses ‘natural’ stride. Then you can make the adjustments that you want to shorten your horses stride or lengthen your horses stride. The set of trotting poles will help you get a feel for your horse’s natural stride as well as adjusting the stride shorter or longer. In showjumping, you need to train your horse to be able to have a shorter or longer stride where necessary, that is part of the art of showjumping!

Once you and your horse have mastered the basic set up of trotting poles, you can do lots more exercises to develop your riding skills in showjumping training. Like setting up the trotting poles on a curved line. The distance at one end is wider than the other end and it is your job as a rider to stay on the line that takes you through the centre of the rails. Not as easy to ride as when the trotting poles are in a straight line, that is for sure!

Winter Horse Blankets – How to Choose a Turnout Blanket for Your Horse

Because horse blankets are used for so many different situations, it shouldn’t be surprising for you to find that there are many different types of horse blankets and sheets.

Horse blankets typically come in three different weights. A lightweight, known as a sheet, a medium weight for cold weather and a heavy weight for very cold weather. Medium and heavy weight blankets are filled for warmth, whereas sheets do not have any filling. When shopping for blankets, you will also see something referring to “denier” with a number beside it. This is a term used to indicate the size or number of filament or yarn. Sort of like thread count in sheets. The higher the number, the heavier the yarn or fiber. I had a young gelding that was always playing and ripping his blankets, so I always opted for blankets with a higher denier. I found one manufacturer that would guarantee their blankets against rips or tears for up to two years. These still ripped, but when they did, the manufacturer would replace the blanket.

If your horse needs to be protected from the cold but will be spending time in the pasture, you will want to use a turn out blanket. These blankets are made with waterproof materials and are designed so that it is hard for horses to become twisted around if the horse decides to roll around on the ground. Except for these added features, the turn out blanket is quite similar to the stable blanket.

Obviously the weight needed for a winter horse blanket depends on where you live and how cold it gets. On extremely frigid days, I have been known to layer multiple blankets on my horse, if needed. Blanket manufacturers will typically tell you what temperatures their blankets are good for. I often place my hand between the blanket and the horse to see if the horse feels warm. If her body temperature feels cool, I know I need to move to a heavier weight. In general, I use a sheet for weather in the 50’s a medium weight in the 30s and 40s and a heavy weight for weather in the 20s and teens. I might also use a sheet if it is in the 60s and raining. Wind chill can warrant the need for a warmer blanket. Every horse is different. Older horses or horses that are clipped may require warmer blanketing. So, you have to gauge what is best for your particular climate and your horse’s needs.

There are horse stable blankets and sheets that are worn by the horse while it is in the stable or stall. It is not waterproof and should not be worn while the horse is turned out in the paddock or pasture. While these are nice to have, there’s no reason why you can’t use a turnout blanket while the horse is in the stall.

Choosing Your Ideal Riding Gear and Saddles

As a horse owner, chances are you know the importance of making sure the saddles and horse tack you are investing in are ideal for your horse and your riding conditions. As the most important element of horseback riding, the saddle is the root of your riding ability. It seems that the most popular form of saddle for people to invest in is the western saddle because it is highly geared towards comfort and it has an additional option for holding on during an intense riding session.

The way in which you ride your horse should be the main deciding factor regarding which saddle is the best for your personal needs and your riding experience. There are different ways that people can ride horses, so when you are browsing the market for your ideal saddle, you might want the help of a professional who can point you in the right direction depending on what your riding style is. There are various makes and models of saddles that will position you differently on the horse. The English saddle, for example, is not as heavy in weight as the western saddle and they come equipped with metal stirrups. Western saddles are made with fenders that prevent the straps from pinching your legs while you ride, whereas English saddles are not made with fenders.

Saddles are undeniably an incremental part of the horseback riding experience, but on top of investing in the saddle that is ideal for your riding style, you are going to want to purchase additional horse tack that coincides with the saddle you have chosen. Between the stirrups, the cinches, the halters, reins, harnesses, bridles, and other various products that are used for riding and domesticating horses, there are many options on the market to indulge in.

Depending on your experience level and riding style, there are different forms of horse tack that will be ideal for your personal circumstances. Going online to a horse tack store is a fantastic way to get professional opinions and a first handed view of the equipment available, but a more efficient way to browse for your ideal horse tack is to utilize the internet as an online tool to enhance your horse riding experience. The online world is flooded with equipment and knowledge about horseback riding, so for people of all skill levels, the internet is a fantastic place to expand upon the sport.

Saddles and riding wear such as ladies and men jodhpurs that properly suit your riding style will create the riding atmosphere in which you will flourish most.

These foals get a really good start

Probably one of the most often asked questions of my Parelli career was: “what can we do with our foal”. In principle you can accomplish very much with very little. Everything you do with your foal will have an influence on the rest of his life. Often the advice is to do nothing with them or as little as possible, but that is impossible. For as soon as they interact with humans, they are learning something (good or bad). Every approach, touch and also the reaction of the mares to humans, the foal will interpret and learn. Foals are ‘full faculty learners’ from birth. This means they have to be able to do many things within hours after birth. See, hear, get up, walk and run from danger. Us humans and many other mammals are helpless and blind.

This was an introduction to the answer to the question: “what can we do with our foal”. Usually the people did not find my answer very satisfying, because it already takes a lot of knowledge, timing and experience to do it right the first time. When learning to paint, you don’t start with the most expensive canvas, expensive brushes and indelible paint. A foal is like a blank canvas and it would be ideal if you already knew exactly what the desired result of your actions would be.

From the very first moment back in 1997 when I first saw a small picture of Parelli Natural Horsemanship in a magazine in Australia, I have always been very enthusiastic about Pat & Linda’s program. I could not have learned the deep understanding of a horse anywhere else as effectively. By seeing the footage underneath, I remember again why. These foals are given such great experiences, mainly because of the great relationship and communication these mares have with humans.

I hope the video on my blog will inspire you and that you will share it with many others. Enjoy! I sincerely hope this will be the future image of the horse world.

From the year 2001 until the end of 2009 I was a Parelli Natural Horsemanship professional. In 2010 I decided to teak a break from teaching courses and lessons. I still love the Parelli program very much and hope many people will join in the future. So how could I still help? I know many people had trouble loading or travelling with their horse in a trailer, so …

I decided to become an ambassador for safe and comfortable trailer loading and transporting of horses.

I plan to do this by offering all I know about trailer loading to ensure safe and comfortable loading and transport for both horse and human. And…. by promoting horse trailers with slant loading, since this is the most comfortable way for horses to travel.

In those eight years I have loaded many horses and have also transported some of them on commission. With several of my personal horses I kept on challenging and improving my trailer loading abilities and have travelled extensively through Europe with them.

Can i do natural horsemanship and ride Hunter jump at the same time?

ok so heres my plan:

I have been on and off with english(this includes dressage, saddle seat, and hunterjump) and natural horsemanship (parelli, but soon to start riding clinton).

I luv to jump! and want to start doing cross country once i find a barn that does it. But i also love doing natural stuff. if i find a natural trainer do u think i could also jump?

Or how would u handle the situation?

Yes you can do both, but why are you starting Clinton Anderson instead? Clinton discourages natural horsemanship for the type of riding you are looking to get into, however Parelli encourages it. Walter Zettle, world renowned dressage master, recommends natural horsemanship (Parelli) as the best foundation for ANY type of riding. In this month’s (May) issue of Dressage today he writes about it. Even Lauren Barwick competed in China in the paralympics and won both gold and silver medals.

The Olympic Medal Winning Dutch Warmblood Horse

The Dutch Warmblood is a breed of horse developed as a competitive and recreational horse for the major international equestrian disciplines of dressage, jumping, three-day eventing and driving for which it has gained world-wide recognition. It is also known as the Royal Dutch Sport Horse or simply Dutch Sport Horse.

Most warmblood breeds are continuing to evolve. In fact, they are not breeds in the sense that Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Morgan Horses and Saddlebreds are breeds. Their studbooks are not closed so that other breeds can be introduced into the gene pool to reap the benefits of hybrid vigor and to speed and improve the evolutionary process of attaining the breeding goal of a particular studbook. The Dutch Warmblood is no exception.

Registered warmblood breeding in the Netherlands has been going on for over 100 years. In 1887, King Willem II recognized the first Dutch studbook organization and in doing so he laid the groundwork for regulated Warmblood breeding. During the 19th century several regional and local studbook organizations bred horses specifically for farming.

In the 1950’s, the Dutch Warmblood Horse evolved from crossing two man-created Dutch breeds – the Gelderlander and the Groningen, and then refining the horse with the Thoroughbred to improve stamina. The Gelderlander evolved on the light sandy soils of central Holland and is a medium-sized horse with a stylish gait and jumping abilities inherited from its many ancestors; the Gelderlander gave the new breed its excellent forequarters. The Groningen evolved on the heavy clay soils of northern Holland into a larger and heavier, draft style horse that was nearly lost in the mid-20th Century due to a significant number of mares being used to create the Dutch Warmblood which left few purebreds. Both the Gelderlander and the Groningen share Friesian, Oldenburger and Holsteiner in their ancestry along with other related warmbloods, such as the Oldenburg and the Hanoverian used to clarify minor conformation details as well as to emphasize a calm temperament. The breeding program that began in the 1960’s gave the world one of the most successful horse breeds ever developed in postwar Europe.

However, there are 3 varieties of Dutch Warmblood Horses. Using the old established bloodlines, the Dutch developed a true riding sport horse or Rijpaard, using Thoroughbred stallions as well as riding-type stallions from France, Holstein, Hanover and elsewhere while taking care to retain the qualities of the old Dutch breeds. Hackney Horses were also introduced to this cross in order to produce a stylish harness horse with a proud, high head carriage and high knee action, known as the Dutch Harness Horse or Tuigpaard with American Saddlebred being added now. Other breeders continue to breed the traditional Gelderlander light draft horse, or Basistype, by crossing with the Groningen to add more mass. As a result, the modern Dutch Warmblood horse is divided into three categories in the KWPN Studbook as sport horse, harness horse and traditional Gelderlander type.

Breeding and selection of the Dutch Warmblood Horse is strictly controlled and monitored by the Koninkijk Warmbloed Paardenstamboek Nederland (KWPN) or Royal Warmblood Horse Studbook of the Netherlands. This registry governs the breeding and the studbook in North America through a branch organization (KWPN-NA) formed in 1983. Keurings, or horse inspections, are held each year in both the Netherlands and in North America and the horses are presented at age three or older. Only after they have proven that they possess the necessary quality and breed standard will they be entered into the Studbook and allowed to be branded as Dutch Warmblood horses. However, branding of horses is illegal according to Dutch law, so today only the oldest Dutch Warmbloods still bear the lion-rampant brand on the left hip. Today’s horses are micro-chipped instead.

But the selection process doesn’t end with that one inspection. Both genders undergo regular re-evaluations and are given classifications according to their contribution to the breed, including their own achievements and the achievements of their offspring. No registry has produced more successful international show jumping horses than the KWPN. With at least 8 Olympic medalists since 2000; 2 in dressage, 6 in show jumping, the Dutch Warmblood Horse ranked first in jumping by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) in 2007.

Physically, the Dutch Warmblood Horse stands 15.2 hands with no upper height limit, although the average is about 16.2 hands with some reaching 17 hands. A horse that is too tall is impractical for sport and therefore not desirable. The head is refined with a straight profile and the neck is long and arched. The withers are fairly prominent and the girth is deep with plenty of heart room. The forelegs are strong and well-muscled and the hindquarters are powerful. The hock joints are low to the ground and these factors combine to give great power to the Dutch Warmblood. The overall impression should be a horse of balanced proportions. They are easy to handle, easy to ride and intelligent, with a willing and hard-working character.

Most Dutch Warmblood Horses are black, brown, bay, chestnut, or grey. White markings on the face and legs are not uncommon. The gene pool also has several tobiano horses from the approved stallion, Samber, although no tobiano stallion has been approved since. The roan pattern turns up occasionally from the approved stallion, El Rosso.

Dutch Warmblood Horses are high achievers, but good conformation is not to be overshadowed by achievements. In a relatively short time the modern Dutch Warmblood has risen to international competitive importance. Dutch Warmbloods have been exported all over the world and are winners under the flags of many nations in international competitions as well as in the Olympic Games.

Dutch Warmblood foals must have a name no longer than 20 characters or spaces that begins with the designated letter for the year of their birth. The designated letter for 2008 is “D” and may be the same name as a previous horse, although the registration number itself will be unique. However, approved stallions must have a unique name and in some cases must be renamed once approved.

However, there is a downside to the breed. Osteochondrosis (OC) is currently the most prevalent developmental disorder in horses where a disturbance occurs in the process of ossification, resulting in the formation of abnormalities in the bone and cartilage during a foal’s growth. Currently, OC affects approximately 30% of young horses worldwide, mostly in warmblood breeds. Of the 12,000 foals born each year and registered by the Dutch Warmblood studbook KWPN, an average of 3,000 will develop OC during their first year. A complete genetic study to investigate the differences in genetic background between joints and differences between factors influencing the development of OC is underway and will continue for two more years.

The success of the Dutch Warmblood Horse is no accident. The same characteristics and approaches which have made The Netherlands outstanding in agriculture and commerce have been applied to their goal to breed the best sport horse in the world.

Whats an interesting fact about Horseshoes, stirrups, and horse harnesses from along time ago?

Ok so im doing this essay in my la ss class and i have to write about Horseshoes, stirrups, and horse harnesses.

thanks, sindy
so if you can help me then that would be awesome!!

Among the things I find interesting about horseshoes: among the early attempts at protecting horse’s feet were the Roman “hipposandals,” which were attached by laces and ties. This is an example in the British Museum: http://www.britishmuseum.org/explore/highlights/highlight_objects/pe_prb/i/iron_hipposandal.aspx

The first stirrups of which historians are aware of were “toe stirrups,” mere loops of rope that the rider, who presumably was either barefoot or wore sandals, stuck his big toe through to steady himself: http://www.uh.edu/engines/epi476.htm

The development of horse harness took some time: early harnesses that were used were around the horse’s neck, rather than resting on the shoulders, and the result was that if a horse pulled hard enough, the harness could actually interfere with his breathing– kind of counter-productive to getting work done. Horse brasses, the decorative ornaments that used to be commonplace as a part of fine coach or draft harnesses, are something of an outgrowth of the use of amulets on horses in pagan times to ward off evil influences: http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/livestock/horses/facts/info_brasses.htm

Horse Riding – The Importance of the Helmet

While people are becoming more aware of the need for head safety, somehow the equestrian world has missed the boat. Cyclists are wearing helmets, worrying about the potential impact should they fall or be hit by a car. And yet, riders on living, thinking animals seem to forget the risks.

Horseback riding has one of the highest accident rates for minor injuries. When entering the Emergency room with a broken collar bone or other injury, most doctors and nurses just sigh when you tell them you ride horses. It is an every-day kind of occurrence.

Lots of people think of riding motorcycles as being highly dangerous, but in fact, riding horses ranks at about the same level! Imagine, on a motorcycle, you are traveling very quickly with nothing much between you and the ground. On a horse, you are traveling very quickly with nothing much between you and the ground. The only difference is that motorcycles are controlled by the driver. Horses have a mind of their own.

It is easy to forget how quickly things can go wrong. If your horse is a quiet animal who rarely startles, you might not think that anything could happen. But all it takes is a sudden noise, or something that catches his eye and he could be off and running, leaving you in the dirt. Even the quietest horse in the world has the potential to spook.

When training a performance horse the risk is even greater. The more fit the horse is, the more likely he is to have the athleticism to unseat his rider. Besides being fit, he is also more alert and has a higher chance of pulling something stupid in response to good spirits, or even having a temper tantrum over a movement he does not want to do.

World class dressage riders have been known to lose control of their horses, and dressage is the sport where control is of the essence. Jumper riders get ditched by their horses when they refuse a jump. An overexcited gaming horse can slip and fall in the middle of a pattern, and even a champion pleasure horse can stumble, catching his rider unaware.

And yet, thousands of adult riders refuse to wear helmets. They are hot, they are uncomfortable, and they don’t look cool. You name it, and the excuse is used. So many riders feel that they would never fall off, or that their horse would never pull anything stupid on them. And yet, as a rider becomes more experienced, the risk of injury during a fall tends to go up. This is because it generally takes something a lot bigger to get them off, and the potential for landing badly increases with the explosiveness of the situation.

All it takes is once, and you could suffer from a serious concussion, or worse. It is a fact that riders die every year from head impacts that would have caused little more than a serious headache if they had been wearing a helmet.

Additionally, as adults, we need to set a good example to young riders. How many kids feel that it is perfectly safe to hop on a horse without anything on their head? How many others can’t wait until they are 18 and no longer need to wear a helmet in the ring? If adults were more responsible about wearing helmets, perhaps the young riders would feel more comfortable about protecting their heads.

You only get one head. It is worth protecting.

How to whiten a horse riding helmet?

My riding helmet is turning a yellowish colour and i am not sure of what to use to whiten the outside of it? Thanks

Are you aware that when the plastic starts to change colors, it is time to get a new helmet? That means the plastic is breaking down, and it no longer has it’s protective qualities that ASTM and SEI denote.

Helmets are dated on the inside, and if you read the info at the websites, most helmets are expected to need to be replaced about every 3-4 years. Sooner if you have a fall.

Would trail rides on a fat horse be harmful to horse?

Yep, here i am once again, curious about the little fat horse that I am riding in addition to the horse I lease (its like a two for one..)
Anyhow, after going through the training schedule for getting him back in shape ( http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AskYog.mDU_Z1MzAasjMXbGQ.Rd.;_ylv=3?qid=20090607115310AA2HBwZ )
I was curious if Trail rides would be harmful to him, since he is pretty fat. For those who dont know, he is too fat for a saddle, so all riding must be done bareback. There will be little to no trotting, no cantering, just walking.
is not a follow the leader sort of trail ride, just going out with friends. No real rules, includes a few steep hills.

Nope. It’d be a good workout for him. You could also start by just leading him on the trails while you ride the other horse. But you could definitely ride him, especially if you started just at a walk.

Grooming Tips Essential for Caring for a Horse

There is more to taking care of a horse than feeding it and taking it out for a ride on weekends. There are things like proper health care as well as diet and nutrition. All of these are important but never overlook the significance of good grooming. It develops a regular habit of cleaning along with allows you to spot and treat any possible injuries. Most importantly, grooming ensures the horse will be happy and perform its very best when you want it to. It should be given as much priority as its daily feed.

The first items on your list for proper grooming are to get the necessary tools. There are a number of different items you’ll require ranging from combs, body brushes, mane and tail combs, a good hoof pick, some soft sponges to a horse fly mask. Also, try not to forget about grooming sprays, hoof ointments, and clippers. You may not believe it but all these items will come in handy at some point.

Now you are ready to give your horse a good bath. You can begin at either side of its body. It really doesn’t matter as long as its entire body is thoroughly washed in the end. Get a good sponge and fill up a bucket with warm water and get it a good go over. I like to bathe my animals regularly for two reasons. First, it allows them to get acclimated to the close personal contact with me also it allows you to completely remove all the dirt and muck from all corners of its body.

Next, you’ll want to tackle your horse’s mane. Some owners have different opinions on what to do with the mane. Some, depending on a particular horse’s discipline or breed, like to braid them, while other owners prefer to shave the mane completely off. The horse’s tail is another matter. You can do many different things to the tail such as clipping, thinning, or adding it up. All of these styles enhance the horse’s overall appearance or hides any faults.

You can’t forget about the horse’s hooves. They are after all an essential part in a horse’s body. Maintaining proper hoof care of it is extremely important. The easiest method for cleaning a horse’s hooves is by picking out its feet. This helps you to remove mud, manure, or rocks stuck in the sole. Not only do you do this for hygienic reasons but also as a prevention measure from foot problems like bruising.

Help with getting a horse used to clippers!?

Ok so I just bought a horse about 2 weeks ago. She is a 10 yr old mare and is well, very mare-ish. She’s high strung and puts up a fight for everything! I clipped her muzzle and the whiskers around her eyes as well as her legs. No problem with that.
She gets very mad when her mane or forelock touch her ears when I’m riding. She shakes her head which makes it very hard for her to focus on the jumps in front of her.
Anyways, I wanted to trim up her bridle path as well as take it a little farther down to keep her mane away from her ears. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with the clippers near the top of her neck/head. She would flip her head up as soon as I would get the scissors near her bridle path.
How can I get her to tolerate the clippers around the top of her neck? Even if I can get her to tolerate the scissors, that will be fine.

If you’ve only had this horse for two weeks, she probably hasn’t had enough time to learn to trust you fully. A horse’s ears are sensitive and if they’ve had a bad experience with someone handling their ears roughly in the past, then it might take more time for her to warm up enough to let you touch them. You do have a few options though…

This clearly isn’t a problem with the clippers or scissors, seeing as she let you clip the rest of her. This is an ear shyness problem. The only thing you can do to cure ear shyness is to slowly work your way towards her ears while grooming, petting, or clipping her. If she gets nervous, back off, and if she seems accepting praise her with kind words and a treat. Take it one step at a time, and keep in mind that this problem won’t fix itself overnight.

If you need a more immediate solution to her head-shaking while riding, you can sedate her to clip her for now. There is nothing wrong with sedating a horse to do something that might otherwise stress them out. Just call your vet, tell them your situation, and ask for some sedation. They will dispense the correct dose for your horse and explain the proper way to administer the sedation. Sedating a nervous horse for clipping can actually help them calm down for future clippings. The sedation used for clipping is mild. The horse is still awake and aware of what’s going on, but they feel calm and relaxed from the drug. Once the sedative wears off, they remember getting clipped, and how pleasant the experience was so they may let you clip them without drugs next time. This doesn’t work for all horses, but I’ve seen it work on quite a few of them. Sometimes all they need is to realize that you’re not going to hurt them.

However, some people don’t believe in using sedation as a training aid, or don’t want the spend the $30 or so for the sedative. If you’re one of those people, or if you’d rather not cut away too much of her mane, a crochet ear net, might be your best long term solution. My horse, Rags, had the same problem with the head shaking while riding. His forelock would lift up in the breeze and tickle his ears, so I got him one of these, and the problem was solved: http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?pgguid=30E071C0-7B6A-11D5-A192-00B0D0204AE5&item=22124&ccd=IFH003&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=free&utm_content=22124

What I would suggest you do, is get her an ear net to wear during riding. Keep slowly working your hands, the brushes and the clippers or scissors up near hear ears to get her used to it. If you have a show coming up, or if her bridle path is in really bad shape and needs immediate attention, then invest in some sedative to clip her right away, otherwise, don’t spend the money yet. You haven’t had her that long. There’s a good chance she’ll get over her fear with some more handling by you.
