Show Jumping Exercises – Trotting Poles

Start to teach your horse to jump with these trotting poles exercises. When you are teaching your horse to do showjumping, they must develop an ‘eye for a stride’ so they know where to put their feet without falling over so it is a great idea to start with trotting poles.

What are trotting poles?

Trotting poles are often a set of 4-6 showjumping rails that are laid out at ground level. Generally, they are used to trot over. Of course, if your horse is just starting out, you can walk over the poles. Then progress to trotting your horse over the poles. And later in your training, and with an adjusted distance, you could canter over the poles

Do they become ‘canter poles’ then?!

Trotting poles are used at various distances to develop a series of training exercises for both horse and rider. Plain rails can be used but the colours of showjumping rails are an ideal introduction to the world of showjumping for your horse.

Do you use something different or something else as trotting poles in your training?

Why use trotting poles before you start show-jumping?

As a rider, trotting poles are good to:

Improve your balance as a rider

Improve your rhythm in your riding

Find a focus and an ‘eye’ for distance

Develop the discipline of riding a line (for showjumping)

Be able to ride and adjust your horse’s stride

For your horse, trotting poles are good to:

Improve their balance as a horse carrying a rider

Improve their rhythm and ability to lift off the ground

Give your horse confidence in approaching an obstacle

Develop their jumping style for showjumping

Find a focus when approaching their next obstacle

Develop an ability to adjust their stride

So you can see why trotting poles are so important before you start showjumping.

How do you set up a series of trotting poles that are good for your horse’s training?

Find 4-6 showjumping rails that you can use as a set to make trotting poles. Most times if you start with a distance of 1.4 metres between the rails you will be pretty close to an ‘average’ horses trot stride.

Of course if you already know you are riding a pony you could start at 1.1 metres or if you are riding a big warmblood horse you could start off from 1.5 metres. From where ever you start, know that you are aiming for your horse to go forward in trot with an even rhythm and no change in tempo. Your horse should place a hoofprint halfway between the rails. Adjust the distance between the rails to suit your horses stride. Feel the different trot strides that your horse has.

It is important to find your horses ‘natural’ stride. Then you can make the adjustments that you want to shorten your horses stride or lengthen your horses stride. The set of trotting poles will help you get a feel for your horse’s natural stride as well as adjusting the stride shorter or longer. In showjumping, you need to train your horse to be able to have a shorter or longer stride where necessary, that is part of the art of showjumping!

Once you and your horse have mastered the basic set up of trotting poles, you can do lots more exercises to develop your riding skills in showjumping training. Like setting up the trotting poles on a curved line. The distance at one end is wider than the other end and it is your job as a rider to stay on the line that takes you through the centre of the rails. Not as easy to ride as when the trotting poles are in a straight line, that is for sure!

A New Horse In Our Family

Bringing a horse into your family unit, especially if there are kids involved, is not a small thing. You must think about all the things you will be needing to be prepared, like feed, all of the grooming tools, tack, blankets, and a shelter are just a few of the things you will be needing. More than that, what about the animal itself. What must you look at to be sure that this is the right horse, for there are so many out there.

A horse who has in his past been abused can be a nice thing to for the horse, but what about the safety of your kids? Can an abused horse be dangerous? The answer to this question is a great big yes. The animal would not hurt anybody intentionally, but out of a simple reflex because he thinks he is going to be hit up the side of his head, can be a threat to little people and big ones alike. The horse ducks, and you end up with a huge head in your face or where ever. Some of the other backgrounds you might want to be looking for are these:

an ex racehorse

an ex rodeo horse

a horse who has been used on a cattle ranch

a horse who has been used in a school

a horse who has been only owned by adults

a horse who has been handled be children

a horse who has been involved in an accident of any kind

a horse who shies from certain things because of some kind of an accident

This may look like an extensive list of things to ask or find out about, but it is absolutely mandatory if you are going to be handling him, and especially if you intend to let your kids be around him or her.

Here are some of the things to either look for or ask about–horses who have been a working horse, say with cattle are usually a very easy ride for the average rider. I had a cattle horse once, and the only habit he had that I would suggest watching out for is that every time we came within eye shot of a cow, he would take off and want to do his old job, herding. If the cow is within reach you may find yourself eye to eye with a good sized piece of beef. If the cow is behind a fence you may find yourself running up and down a fence line until you get him back under control.

The chances of coming into contact with a once race horse are not much, but a lot of Thouroughbreds have been bred for or have been race horses. These horses have a propensity to want to run full out or race another horse on a trail ride or on the street or where ever. Just be careful to keep this horse behind the rest, and not to run him hard and confuse him with his old training.

A horse who has been trained in English arena jumping or in that type of a school loves to jump. This horse may want to take a flying leap over anything that looks like a jump to him. A gate, logs, a ditch, are all things to watch for. In a manner of speaking, you must be careful on any new horse, that you have not had experience on for there are many things that he or she may do that you may not be aware of.

I had another horse who was a very gentle giant. He was half quarter horse and half Belgium, and was very large, but although his height was bigger than average, any five year old child was safe on his back. He was always very careful and walked slowly with the children, but again if encouraged would lope or gallop with any adult.

One day I let a friend of mine barrow him, which is something I would encourage nobody to do. This woman went out for about one hour, and returned him thanking me for the ride. He was always the horse I would let friends barrow because of his good nature. About a week later, while I was out riding him, a large pepsi delivery truck went past us, and he took off in a wild and frantic run home. I had never seen him act like this, and later found out that when my friend had borrowed him last week, they had had an accident with a similar truck, which she did not think was anything to worry about for he seemed uninjured. I took him to the vet, and he examined him to find that he had a deep muscle bruise on his hind quarters, and the collision with the pepsi truck was one that he never forgot. Every time he saw one after that he had the same reaction, and I can say that in my opinion the horse was ruined. He was no longer the gentle giant I once had, and was not trustable like he was before.

When something like this happens sometimes nobody is aware, or those who are aware don’t say anything unless asked about a horses quirks. Be aware, and be careful to ask all the questions you can think of, and be sure that you ride the animal in all the situations possible before you buy. Be sure to ask if he spooks, has any habits or quirks. Be sure to get the name of the vet that has been caring for him and give him a call. This is sort of like talking to a mechanic who has been caring for a car.

Think about the size of the horse in relation to the size and weight of your child. A horse can weigh up to 2000 pounds, and a child somewhere around 50 to 100 pounds in comparison. Introduce them, and always watch them for the first few rides, making sure that neither has bad habits with the other. We do want this to be a good experience for both of them do we not?

It opens at more than 3,000 theaters! WTF

I watched the trailer and almost throw up. The movie is horse manure. I can’t see kids interested in watching this. Not normal kids at least.
Rotten Tomatoes: 2 positive reviews out of 32.
Consensus: Dwayne Johnson brings the full force of his charm (and his appropriately pale chompers) to the title role, but flat direction and a committee-written script render The Tooth Fairy unacceptably dull.

It looks stupid in a funny way. I think dressing the actor, whatever his name was, in a dress was a lame attempt at comedy.

Why You Should Eat Grass-Fed Beef

How long can you put up with taking in nothing but a half pound of horse meat and some fresh greens everyday? It may sound like you’re really gonna get thin, but for how long? And how sure are you that you will stay thin forever? Trust me, there will come a day before the month ends that you’ll binge on the junkiest foods on earth.

Most people feel bad about having to go through dieting and be devoid of the fun and tasty meals. All the cravings and temptations start to kick in until you can’t take it anymore. In order to change this problem you have to get your ass in the kitchen and start making beef recipes.

We all want to look great naked and love the food we eat at the same time, but this usually isn’t the case. However, if you implement grass-fed beef you can make it happen.

Health Food to Poison

Grass-fed beef is by far the best choice available. It’s high-quality meat you used to eat as a kid, and it was packed with plenty of proteins, omega-3s, and CLA (conjugated linoleic acid). When you make this choice you don’t have to worry about all the saturated fats or omega-6s present.

Remember; what you buy at the store is not real beef! Instead it’s packed with poisons, even though it basically tastes the same. If you want to know the true problem it has to be corn, and the government is behind it.

Grass is one of those high-cellulose foods you see cattle adapt to accordingly. We know them as herbivores, but when they consume corn, soybeans, and other grains they can gain weight and get sick just like we do. When this occurs were left with lots of omega-6s in the meat instead of omega-3s.

You won’t find too many people growing corn without the help of the government. After all, it costs a dollar more to produce than its worth, and since no one can “eat” debt, there is a huge surplus. So when it comes time to feed the cows; guess where the extra corn goes?

It takes about 16 pounds of corn and soy to equal 1 pound of grain-fed beef. The numbers over the course of a year are crazy, and if the supply and demand wasn’t ridiculous we would never see corn-fed beef. Sadly, over 5 billion dollars is spent on this and it just has to stay.

The moment you get to know how everything works, you’ll realize that your tax isn’t worth going to these types of cattle owners.

A Grass-Roots Revolution

So let’s blame the government if we’re going to blame someone for all this corn-fed, junk-food beef. We can’t beat it unless we come up with a grass-roots revolution where we stop eating it and demand grass fed beef. It will cost a few more dollars, but it is definitely well worth it.

Finding it at your local supermarket will be difficult, but if you look at your local Whole Foods locations you’re bound to find some.

Tips to Help You Find Hood Ornaments For Sale

Many cars do not come with included hood ornaments, and instead have emblems. However, it is possible to add pretty much any hood ornament of your choice to the front of your vehicle, and when you choose the right ornament; it really will do wonders for the style of your car. If you need help finding and choosing hood ornaments for sale, this article has the information that you need.

You may have trouble finding a range or ornaments at your average local automotive shop. These stores typically sell a range of performance and repair related items, and only stock the most popular vehicle accessories. However, you may be able to find a better range of products at specialty auto fitters, and shops that deal with custom cars should have access to a large catalog of products.

For most people, the easiest way to access the largest selection of hood ornaments is by going online. There are tons of online auto accessory stores that sell a wide range of automotive hood mascots. There are also stores that specialize only in ornaments, and some will even create custom ornaments according to your designs.

When choosing an ornament, it is important to think about how it will look when it is actually installed on your hood. This is an important step to take because you may find a design that really catches your eye, but it might not look good once it is installed. All ornaments or mascots, unfortunately, will not look good on all vehicles.

Some important things to consider when choosing an ornament include the size, shape, and the material the ornament is made from. The size is important because it needs to be in proportion with the body of your vehicle. Installing an ornament that is too big may dwarf the rest of your car or truck. On the other hand, a small ornament may fade into the background and go unnoticed.

Though you should choose an ornament that reflects your personality, you should also select one that works with the lines of your car or truck. This will help you create the best look for the front of your car. You should also look at the materials that were used to create the ornament to ensure that the ornament will be durable and easy to clean. Stainless steel and certain types of aluminum are generally good investments.

There are tons of hood ornaments for sale online and in stores. Today, you can choose from a range of silver, anodized gold, and chrome plated ornaments featuring everything from skulls, birds, horses, pigs, dogs to fish and chrome ladies in nude art form, sitting nude ladies and ladies in flying wings. Be sure to find an ornament that works well with your specific vehicle

Kids and Horses

Everywhere you look there are horse crazy girls flocking boarding stables and riding schools, eager to take any chance they can to be around the horses. While it is wonderful to see their eager faces around the farm, it is important to consider their safety.

Kids believe that they are invincible and indestructible. It does not matter how old or how young, it is impossible for a youngster to understand the incredible amount of danger there is around a farm.

If you take a good look around the average horse farm, you will be amazed at just how many dangers there are to those who are not aware.

One of the biggest lures for youngsters is heavy equipment. From big tractors to small ATVs, the equipment around the farm is like honey to a bee. Kids will clamber over, under and through the equipment without considering that they could get hurt. If you have a farm that may have kids around, be sure that all equipment is stored with the keys removed, and any dangerous parts covered or put away. A vehicle with keys attached is far too tempting to a little one, and unless the child is old enough to know how to drive, he should not be using the equipment.

Of course, kids are usually there for the horses. Unfortunately, not all horses are as easygoing as we would like to see. While some will stand in the crossties for hours with little girls brushing them, others would just as soon bite or kick the hand that feeds them.

It should be made clear to the kids which horses they are allowed to handle. Small kids, should be encouraged to wear a helmet whenever handling horses. Older kids may be okay on their own without a helmet, but should still be supervised whenever handling the animals.

When riding, there should always be a person on the ground, available to help in case of emergency. No-one should be riding if there is not one person on the property available who is able to drive should a trip to the hospital be necessary. Riders should only be allowed on horses that they know, unless they are supervised by an adult the first few times.

Any horses who are potentially dangerous to kids should be clearly pointed out. You should put signs on their stalls, and try to avoid turning them out with horses that the kids are likely to have to bring in from the fields.

While you would not want to discourage kids from enjoying the horses and having fun around the farm, setting up some rules and safety measures is essential. An ounce of prevention can go a long way.

Remember, even in the safest barns accidents can happen. Put together a plan for managing emergencies, and make sure that all the kids know exactly what to do if something goes wrong.

Never leave kids on the farm without at least one adult nearby for supervision. Discourage parents from randomly dropping their kids off for the day, and be sure to have all emergency numbers on hand.

Kids can be great help around the barn, but they need to be safe.

Hanoverian – The Horse Of Olympic Caliber

For centuries, Hanoverians have been known as one of the most successful breeds in riding. Yet for all its prominence and success, including being touted as the best known of the German Warmbloods, there is very little useful information to be found about this 400-year-old variety, either on breeders’ websites or on any of the six international registry sites. Piecing together machine translations from German is woefully imprecise, but there is very little info in English.

Known in Germany as the Hannoveraner, or Hannöverschen Horse, the origins of selective breeding can be traced back to 16th Century to the Kingdom of Hanover in northern Germany, which is now the state of Lower Saxony. Breeding in Hanover at that time was a major livelihood of farmers, and the Hanoverian was bred for agriculture, carriage, and for the cavalry. Originally developed as a draft horse, the breed has been enhanced by the Trakehner, with imported Thoroughbred stallions. regularly crossed with domestic “war horse” German mares for improvements. The result is the modern Hanoverian horse.

The State Stud in Celle, Germany, was founded in 1735 at a time when the individual reining German sovereigns wanted to be independent of importing horses. Since horses were of prime military importance, the goal of the State Stud was to offer good stallions at low fees to individual breeders. This goal remains, although the horses are no longer used for war.

Those unfamiliar with the Hanoverian tend to think that the State Stud at Celle and the Hanoverian Society are one entity, but they are not. Both are separate organizations that co-operate to the benefit of the Hanoverian breed. The Hanoverian Society e.V. is a private co-operation financed by members’ dues, whereas the State Stud Celle is a wholly state-owned institution. Currently, 130 stallions are stationed there and during the breeding season, between February and July, from two to ten stallions are stabled at each of the 42 breeding stations that are spread out over the region. Out of 12,060 services registered with the Verband in 1997, about 7,444 were carried out by state-owned stallions. Currently the Hanoverian stud book has approximately 19,000 mares and 540 stallions registered.

Sometime after 1870, breeders consolidated, taking into account the indigenous tribes, in which the coach and military suitability of the Hanoverian stood in the foreground; and the Hanover Chen Stutbuches (Hanoverian Studbook) was officially begun in 1888 and in 1899 the Chamber of Agriculture took over the stud-book as keeper. Verband hannoverscher Warmblutzuchter, e.V. (VhW), (The Society of Hanoverian Warmblood Breeders) was later founded in 1922 in Germany through a merger of breeders and abolished the requirement for a centrally controlled, uniform breeding and evaluation of all recorded breeding operations.

During the time between the two World Wars special emphasis was on use in agriculture.Since the end of World War II, the breeding goal has been a redevelopment of Hanoverian breeding to exclusively produce a more versatile performance horse.

The Hanoverian is a rideable, noble, big framed and correct warmblood horse, which, on the basis of its natural abilities, its temperament and character is suitable as a performance horse as well as a pleasure horse. Breeding stock is very carefully inspected and selected for correct conformation, athletic ability and inner qualities such as disposition and trainability.

Hanoverians are large but refined, with long necks, sloping shoulders and pronounced withers. The Hanoverian is characterized by a strong build, muscular hidquarters, and hard hooves. The head should be medium sized, and the eyes should be large and expressive. The horses can be 15.3-17.2 hands high, but most are in the range of 15.3-16.2 hands. The colors of Chestnut, bay, brown, black, and gray are the most common. Regulations prohibit buckskin, palomino and cremello horses, as well as horses with too much white, from being registered. The Hanoverian is a well proportioned warmblood horse with natural balance, impulsion and three elegant, light, elastic gaits described only as a ground-covering walk; a floating trot; and a soft, round, rhythmic canter. No further information is available.

The Hanoverian is calm and level headed, even in difficult situations. The horse has an honest and trusting disposition, and gives in willingly to the rider’s commands. They have been bred to be willing and trainable.

A large number of top competition horses have been branded with a special “H” brand of the Hanoverian trade mark on their back left side. Its inspiration came from the crossed horse heads that still decorate the gables of the breeding farm house in Lower Saxony and is a relic from prehistoric times.

In the United States, the American Hanoverian Society (AHS) was incorporated in 1978 in Kentucky with only 40 members, for the purpose of gathering the Hanoverians in North America into a registry to preserve and promote the breed. While the AHS is an independent organization, it maintains a close relationship with the German VhW, regarding inspection, registration and licensing procedures and educational activities.

But not only top riders who engage in Olympic caliber dressage, eventing, hunting, jumping and driving benefit from Hanoverian Horses. The Horses with the “H”-Brand also deligth pleasure riders in many countries throughout the world. Hanoverians, elegant, strong, and robust, excel in dressage, show jumping and cross country.

How do I get my horse to stop throwing his head?

I have a horse who throws his head when I ask him to back or sidepass. I know it is not that he has a sore tooth, because he does it whether I am using a bit or a bosal. How can I correct this without using a training fork or an overcheck?
My horse is a 14 year old quarter horse gelding. I use a tom thumb bit on him. He has an appointment to get his teeth floated in a few days, but he only throws his head when I ask him to back or sidepass. I also know that it has nothing to do with his training, as he has had extensive training and was at one point in his career a very successful show horse.
Also, he just began doing this a few weeks ago.

Im going to throw this out there cause it hasnt been mentioned yet..
When was the last time you had your horses teeth floated?
Is he young enough that he may have had his wolfe teeth forgotten?I know several that they just didnt errupt till later 5,6,7 and at that point,it may have just left the owners mind – no ones fault it just happens.I had a friend with a 14 year old well trained morgan gelding that all of a sudden he started with the head tossing – and it was his wolfe teeth
Regular floating sometimes twice a year can become the norm as a horse gets older.
And if you randomly tie a horse down when hes in physical pain, your not only going to cause him to act out more demonstratively, but your risking your own neck.
Look for the cause first – I dont have much of an issue with a tie down if its used properly & not as a quick fix.

Stuff coming out of a horse’s nose and mouth…?

There is a horse I know and today he had some stuff pouring out of his mouth and nose. It was kinda greenish. He was sneezing like normal, but then he started sneezing and it would pour out of his nose and mouth. I called my instructor, but she was at a show, so couldn’t come. She said she would call some one and tell them to come, but I am really worried. Please tell me if you know what it is, or have any clue what it could be. Also if it is a sign of any sickness, and what sickness that is. Thanks!

The disease affects horses of two years old and above, becoming more common as horses get older. Early signs may include mild cough, slight increase in respiratory rate and effort, thick yellow mucous. heaves-affected horses have normal temperature and appetite. An affected horse may show signs as rapidly as one hour after exposure, with the horse becoming increasingly breathless. Removal of the offending material allows most cases to improve gradually over a few days.

the way to cure it is is to provide minimum-dust environment together with medical therapy, if necessary. Use substitues for hay and straw. Bedding should be changed on a daily basis. The stable should be at least at least 70 yards to the windward side of the hay store, according to the direction of the prevailing wind. Dust should be removed from the stables on a regular basis.

The alternative method of environmental control is to keep COPD-affected horses at grass. No supplementary hay should be fed and grazing areas should not be near to hay or straw stores. Any supplementary feeding should be in the form of a cubed diet, as even good-quality hay and straw contain large amounts of fungal spores.

Applying all these measures allows most COPD-affected horses to improve in one to two weeks.
have fun and hope he/she get better!

What the judges want to “hear” when they listen to your dressage horse’s musical freestyle!

There are four categories that the judges must consider when listening to and watching your freestyle. They are:

1. Suitability

2. Cohesiveness

3. Editing

4. Phrasing and dynamics

Let’s go over them one by one.

1. Suitability- The actual definition in the USDF rulebook says, “The music matches and expresses the horse and the gaits.”

What does this mean? “Matching the gaits” means that the music tempo or beats per minute (BPM) is the same as your horse’s down beat in the foot fall pattern of the walk, trot, and canter. (For the upper levels, it must also match piaffe and passage.)

The downbeat of the measure (the one you tap your toe to) should match the down beat of your horse’s gait. For example, in the canter the main down beat of the right lead would be the third beat, when the right front hits the ground. If the judge can tap his toe to the music and it matches when the right front foot is hitting the ground in the right lead, then the tempo matches your horse’s gait.

Matching your horse’s “expression” can be a bit more subjective although it’s very obvious when it does NOT match. If you’re riding a big springy warmblood, then cute circus music is not appropriate. On the flip side, a smaller, more average mover would look even more average if he had a large piece of music. Large music may draw wrong expectations from the judges because of the depth of the music. Bigger music is not always better.

2. Cohesiveness is defined in the rulebook as, “Music that is linked by genre, theme or orchestration.” This means that the judges should easily be able to hear the connection between the pieces of music.

The music should sound as if it were one piece for all the selected gaits. The link could be music of the same genre, like jazz or rock and roll, or the same instrument could be featured throughout the piece.

The link could also be music from TV shows, or a movie series. In any case, the connection of the music should be obvious to more than just you. You may think that the connection is apparent, but ask a few friends if they “get it” before you finalize your selection of music.

3. Editing is defined as “Music that has a smooth flow; there are no abrasive cuts, transition or fades.” If you can hear a cut or clip in a piece of music, it’s not a good edit.

Remember that music has phrases. You should never cut or edit a piece of music in the middle of a phrase. It would be like leaving off the end of a sentence. You’d leave the judges hanging.

Imperceptible edits are seamless. Elements that play an important role in a good edit are pitch, key, and where the beats are in the measure.

4. Phrasing and dynamics-Phrasing is defined as “The way sequences of notes are grouped together to form units of melody; the expression of musical sentences.”

This means that a line of notes or measures are grouped together with a clear beginning and end, like a sentence. You should almost feel like taking a breath at the end of a musical phrase much like you would at the end of a sentence.

Dynamics are the variations of the intensity of sound such as the changes in volume and intensity that would help define a change in a movement. For example, going from working trot to a lengthening, or a collected trot to half pass would be more enhanced with a clear, dynamic musical change.

The judges don’t want to guess when your lengthening was supposed to start. They want to hear a clear change in the music, volume, or intensity.

Hope this helps get you on the same “page” as the judges! Ruth

About the Author

Rider, competitor, author, teacher, trainer, freestyle composer,

I need some suggestions for a music-in-motion horse class at my county fair this summer….?

Alright, so music-in-motion is where you ride your horse to music..but anyway…

The song I will be riding to is Rock-A-Hula Baby by Elvis Presley and I need some suggestions for a pattern…I’m really stuck. *thinks* I don’t know what kind of pattern I should do, because Rock-A-Hula Baby is a really fast song…

Anyone have some suggestions for a pattern?

Well, without seeing your horse move it will be tough to answer. Listen to the music. Look for the basic tempo, time signature, and significant moments in the music, such as changes, bridges, rests, that you want to highlight. If the music has a three beat rhythm, canter work would probably work best, two and four beat work save for trot/walk. Try to match your horses gait with the beat and tempo of the music. Let the high point in the music tell you where the specialty moves go. A perky swinging rhythm goes great with a flying change whereas a run that builds to a cymbal crash would better suit a sliding stop.

Sit Back, Relax, Enjoy And Win A Horse Race Spectator Game

Contrary to the common belief, gambling did not start in the US. A vast majority of today’s most popular gambling games have originated in different places around the world. The roots of gambling can be traced down to the Chinese culture. Keno, one of the oldest Chinese lottery games is now played by millions of people all over the world. Other interesting games that have a universal appeal include games like Pai Gow, Craps, Roulette and Blackjack to name just a few.

Besides these, there are various other spectator sports like equestrian sports and Jai Alai that involve a great deal of gambling. An equestrian sport such as thorough bred horse racing is a fine example of this. Although this game was developed during the seventies in England, it gained popularity in the US much later. Online gambling is the latest addition in the long list of gambling games. Horse race spectator games are not only a great source of recreation but also good way to learn more about horse racing games.

Horse race spectator games are simple and fun to play. The player merely needs to select a horse of his choice and then sit back and enjoy, watching the race. It is a grand game on horse racing that you can not only play with your friends but also enjoy with your family. Horse fans can also play a race featuring various champions belonging to different time periods.

The game also offers the player numerous advantages such as choosing conditions as well as the best quality of 3D graphics. Besides this, players also get a chance to examine photo finishes, view instant replays and save their favorite virtual horse races. In short, virtual horse video games like horse race spectator game help to make the right choices and manage financial resources efficiently.

Players can also wager a fictitious amount of money on pre-established races with particular conditions. Moreover, there are great prizes to be won. For instance, players get a chance to dine and converse with some of the top experts in the industry. You can download and install the game for free!

how can I obtain old horse racing videos?

I recently purchase a winning OTTB named Utah Sky. won 6 or 7 times in his career and is registered with the Jockey club, I’d absolutely love to see videos of him racing or old racing pictures, and I’ve tried looking everywhere with no success on finding this sort of thing. Anyone know of a place I can find this stuff? I’m sure there’s gotta be something out there.
Thanks!

Ok i got the best website to check out videos of your horse, “Utah Sky”. But the only problem is that it doesn’t show the results, such as, how much the horse paid to win, winning time, exc. The website is, http://calracing.com/signup.php, when you get there put all your information and when your done verifying everything click where it says “Horse” and put the name of your horse, Utah Sky and you can watch free race replays. By the way sometimes the videos can be slow depending on your internet connection.

In the two decades since Ozzy Osbourne hired him away from his job at a New Jersey gas station to become his new guitarist, Zakk Wylde has established himself as a guitar icon known and revered the world over. Writing and recording with Osbourne led to multi-Platinum success, inspiring him to create the now legendary Black Label Society in 1998. In the decade plus since, BLS has turned the notion …

This charming Disney live-action picture is a genuine sleeper. It’s a variation on the old boy-runs-away-to-join-the-circus story, except this time the boy is a girl. After she joins a traveling show in the 1930s, spunky teen Sonora Webster (Gabrielle Anwar) learns the ropes and eventually lands a plum role in the program: riding a horse off a 40-foot-high diving board into a tank of water. Well, …

Missouri Fox Trotter – The Versatile Gaited Horse From The Ozarks

The Missouri Fox Trotter is a breed of naturally gaited horse from the Ozarks that is most famous for its fox trotting gait of walking with its front feet while trotting with its back feet in a broken, yet gliding motion. Trail riders are rapidly discovering what U.S. Forest Rangers have known for years — Missouri Fox Trotters have no equal when it comes to an easy, sure-footed ride on hazardous or mountainous terrain. They are especially common in their native Missouri, but have world-wide appeal. Missouri Fox Trotters are very versatile horses found in a wide variety of disciplines, including jumping, pleasure and equitation. These horses are historically tied to the grazing cattle industry of the Ozarks and continue to be used on working ranches and farms. In 2002, the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse became the Official State Horse of Missouri.

The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse was developed in the rugged Ozark hills during the 19th century out of a desire to have a sure-footed, smooth-gaited horse that could travel long distances through this mountainous region quickly. They also needed the ability to do whatever was needed such as plowing, hauling logs and working cattle; yet be able to double as a stylish buggy horse or riding horse.

Their pedigrees can be traced to the horses of early settlers coming to the Ozarks from neighboring states of Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee and Arkansas. Bloodlines from several other gaited horses, such as the American Saddle Horses and the Tennessee Walkers along with the American Quarter Horse are in their ancestry. It soon became apparent that horses with the, broken, sliding gait were the most useful in the rocky hills, and selective breeding for the fox trot gait began. Later the horses became known as Missouri Fox Trotters, though other names have been used such as Missouri Fox Trotting Horse or simply, Fox Trotter.

A breed association was formed in 1948 by fifteen men who were concerned with preserving this unique breed before it was irretrievably lost and maintaining an accurate stud book. Much progress was made, but in 1955 the Secretary’s home burned and with it the stud book and all the records they had. In 1958, the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association (MFTHBA) was reorganized and reincorporated as a stockholder company. In 1973 the corporation was changed from a stockholding company to a membership organization. It became a “closed book” registry in 1983 and foals have to have both parents registered in the MFTHBA. This is designed to preserve the breed standard and history of this American horse. Currently, over 90,000 horses have been placed in the Official Record with more than 42,283 registered Missouri Fox Trotters living in the United States and Canada.

In May of 2004, MFTHBA Board of Directors recognized the need to specifically register and record Fox Trotting horses that were between 44″ and 56″, and The Missouri Fox Trotting Pony Registry (MFTPR) was created as a part of the MFTHBA. No further information is available at this time on what the ancestry of these smaller Fox Trotters may have been.

The Missouri Fox Trotting Horse comes in a wide range of colors; and. generally stands between 14 and 16 hands in height, with a pony version between 11 and 14 hands. Individuals may average 900 to 1200 pounds. The neck should be graceful with a neat, clean, symmetrically shaped head of medium length; pointed ears; large, bright, wide-set eyes; and a tapered muzzle with large nostrils. The back should be reasonably short and strong, the body deep and the ribs well-sprung. The foot should be well made, strong and in proper proportion to the size of the horse. Good conformation permits their special gaits to be performed in the proper manner.

Unlike a lot of gaited horses, the Missouri Fox Trotter is not a showy horse with high-stepping flashy gaits, but rather a steady, dependable, sure-footed animal which often nods its head in time with the pleasant gait. The head and tail are slightly elevated and the rhythmic beat of the hooves along with the nodding action of the head give the appearance of relaxation and poise. The movement is smooth and consistent with no noticeable up and down motion. No special shoeing or training is required for these 3 natural born gaits.

The breed’s signature Fox Trot is a broken diagonal gait performed by walking in front and trotting behind, with reach in each stride. The rhythm begins at the tip of the nose with a characteristic headshake and continues back through the ripple of the tail. There is no excessive animation, nor exaggerated knee motion but the back feet have a sliding action resulting from the horse breaking at the hocks. The front hoof of the diagonal pair strikes the ground just before the rear hoof, and one front hoof is on the ground at all times in the correct fox trot. The head is slightly elevated with a rhythmic motion matching the rear foot movement. The raised tail emphasizes the rhythm naturally. The gait is extremely comfortable and surefooted, and the horse can maintain it for long periods of time with little fatigue.

The Flat Foot Walk is a rapid flat, four beat gait performed in a square, stylish manner. It is distinctly different from the fox trot which has a broken rhythm. A correctly performed flat foot walk has the sound of an equal four beat cadence produced by the hooves. The head shake is more animated than in the fox trot and it gives a smooth ride.

The Canter is a three beat gait and is performed in a straight, collected manner with head and tail slightly raised. The three-beat gait is has a rocking, or rolling, motion, starting from the outside rear foot, to the inside rear-outside front landing together, and then to the inside front foot. The head is at its lowest point when the inside front foot is on the ground. It is not fast moving gait, and the horse should appear relaxed.

Missouri Fox Trotters make excellent mounts for children and beginning riders because of their friendly, quiet, gentle dispositions and willingness to please. A person who is inexperienced with horses can ride a Missouri Fox Trotter with confidence since these horses are quite attuned to their riders and the smooth gait makes them easier to ride than the hard-trotting gait of a standard horse.

Help finding a book I read when I was younger, it’s about a horse?

Bear with me as I don’t remember much about the book. It was about a horse, black maybe dark brown, had some kind of cool name like lightning or something, he was (am guessing because it was so long ago that I read it) a wild horse and was hard to break and this one man ended up taming him. The horse would come up behind him during a performance and lay his head on the man’s shoulder I think. I remember that the horse would do tricks that the man taught him. Something happened and the man and horse were separated and it was how they were reunited or something like that? And no it wasn’t Black Beauty. I can’t remember what it is and I’ve been searching for years. Please help. If I was able to read the excerpt or blurb from the book I think I might be able to discern if it was “the” book or not. But as of yet haven’t found it. Am hoping you might be able to help me. Thanks!

It might be Smokey the Cowhorse by Will James.

It won a Newberry award and is still available (usually in paperback these days) and on many school reading lists.

Will James was an artist and author back in the early 1900s. He also wrote other stories about horses (Sand was one of them).

Some of what I remember about the plot:

Smokey was orphaned and grew up wild. Clint was the only person that the horse would allow to ride him, which made some other cowboy jealous. The horse drug Clint home injured (I think after a bobcat attack). I think Clint went off to war and the jealous guy stole and sold Smokey to a rodeo (where he was a famous). Clint is reunited with the horse when he sees him in a parade. He takes him back to the ranch and sets him free.

My copy of the book is a library binding (no cover art). But I was still thrilled to find it after 30 years. The story was made into two movies (one black&white, one color, although I haven’t found a copy of either one, yet).
