Keeping Your Dog from Chewing: Kuranda Dog Beds

Got a precious doggie who loves to gnaw on his bed to the point of no recognition — and then look at you with these big eyes asking “where do I sleep now?” Kuranda USA offers a patented solution for your rambunctious pooch!

The Kuranda dog bed sports a patented design featuring a protective poly resin or aluminum sleeve which is also the frame that the fabric slides into. This protective sleeve leaves no corner gaps or fabric exposed so there is nothing to chew…or so the dog owner thinks. There are times when a persistent chewer will work his way from the fabric, which is inaccessible, to the corners. There they will meet up with reinforced PVC corners that can stand up to some of the most persistent chewers but in the rare instance they don’t a one year ‘chew proof’ guarantee comes standard with each bed. Kuranda guarantees the structural integrity of the frames and any or all parts will be replaced including corners and legs even the 40 oz. Vinyl and Cordura fabrics are guaranteed for one full year.

With three excellent choices in materials to choose from how does one decide? There are advantages to each fabric. First, the vinyl weave is likened to the fabric used in patio furniture; it is breathable and allows water to drip through it. This feature alone allows it to stay cooler than the other two fabrics. However, there is always a catch, it is the least durable and is not recommended for jumping, chewing or rough housing dogs. Cordura is a tough nylon canvas that is similar to the fabric used for horse blankets and backpacks. Cordura fabric is twice as durable as the vinyl weave however, it is not porous so water will puddle on this bed and it does not breathe. Then we have the 40 oz. vinyl which is the most durable and highly recommended for the digger, scratcher, chewer in your life! This sturdy fabric is thick and smooth with a very easy to clean surface. It like Cordura will not breathe and will puddle if rained on.
So has Chomper met his match? Kuranda dog beds are cot style beds that lift your precious pet off the ground between six to nine inches depending on the size of the bed. Many people are perplexed about which frame to get aluminum or poly resin? The answer to that question depends on the dog. The aluminum bed is the strongest and most durable especially for kennels, doggie day spas or veterinarian offices. The around the home dogs will be more than pleased on either the poly-resin or the aluminum beds. Kuranda also offers wooden framed dog beds which are nice looking and quite comfortable but are strongly not recommended for chewing dogs or for outdoor use.

Because Kuranda dog beds are cot style there is a space beneath the bed which helps keep his sleeping space sanitary. Oh that reminds me I haven’t mentioned how to care and maintain the Kuranda dog bed. Convenience is the name of the came for care and maintenance simply hose it down, little soap and water for any persistent stains and the bed is back in action. Kennels and Veterinarian offices swear by the convenience and durability of this extremely functional, durable and innovative pet bed.
Rest assured this dog bed provides a comfortable destination for your dozing dog and helps him ‘knock the habit’ of chewing well, if only on his bed anyway!

Would this be safe for jumping?

I was wondering if it was safe to use pvc pipes for poles when jumping your horse, I know some people use them to jump, and others use wood covered in pvc piping, or just use plain old wood. But wouldn’t the piping shatter on impact?

This is entirely dependent on your situation and experience. I personally do use PVC poles with caps, but I am very sure of my horses abilities and contentious when moving them up. I chose PVC specifically because I have to move my poles often and alone so I wanted something light. Wood is better, it lasts longer and won’t break and hurt the horse if there is an accident. PVC will shatter and could injure a clumsy horse or a horse with a clumsy rider. So you have to make a judgement call on it. I have never had any problem with PVC poles, they work fine, are easy to handle, and hold paint pretty well with a proper primer, but have heard that if a horse falls on it, then you have a problem.

Riser tubes for automatic waterers

Most automatic waterers these days that require a water line to be run below the frost line will require a riser tube of some sort. By riser tube, I mean a tube to center the vertical portion of the water line in. So what is the reason for this and what can be used for this riser tube?

The overall intention for a riser tube is to prevent frost from carrying over to the waterline, thus resulting in slushy water or a frozen line. The supply line touching the riser tube is the most common cause of the supply line freezing. A common misconception is that if the riser tube is filled with insulation, wood or other foreign material, this will prevent the freezing. Since frost can migrate, any fill in the riser tube will only increase the chances of the lines freezing.

So what should be used for a riser tube? Many things have been used, larger PVC pipes, concrete tubes, just to name a few. However neither of these materials will provide the ultimate protection to the automatic waterer during the winter.

Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa conducted a study during the winter of 1992-1993. Their studies indicated an insulated water supply line helped maintain temperatures above freezing. The same study showed insulated water supply lines with an 8” inner diameter and an 12” outer diameter provided optimum freeze protection and sufficient access for service. They found that this size would help retain the heat of the water as it went through the water line. This helped to prevent freeze-ups even when ambient temperatures were far below the freezing point. A second portion of this study also showed that there is no ground heat going up the thermal tube to the automatic waterer and ground heat cannot provide enough heat to keep the waterer from freezing.

Ritchie Industries created their thermal tubes according to the ISU study. The Thermal tubes have an 8” inner diameter and 12” outer diameter and are insulated with two inches of insulation providing an r-value of 14. More information about Ritchie Thermal tubes can be found by following this link www.ritchiefount.com/accessories.html

My Horse’s waterer is frozen and has been for 2 days, can she eat snow?

My friend just passed away and I have been too sad to do a lot, but I plan on fixing the waterer tomorrow, is it safe to say she is eating snow? Please help, I don’t want her to die too.
I’ve been feeding her as I normally do. Hay and some grain. But the waterer is very hard to fix. I have a Nelson 300 series automatic waterer. I don’t really know where to begin.
Thanks All. This is what I have found out. My heating mechanism on the Nelson heater, the one above ground has broken. So I ordered a new one online. Then I ran to tractor supply and got a 16 gallon heated water trough for her.. for until I get the mechanism in the mail. I’ll refill that 2x a day.
Thanks for the advice.

no, that is not safe. imagine, it’s freezing outside, would you like to be out there licking up dirty snow?

my suggestion is to take out a few gallons (maybe 5-10?) of HOT tap water (hotter than bath water) and pouring it over her bucket. it will melt the ice, and give her something reasonable and clean to drink.

Advantages of Horse Back Riding

For many centuries horseback riding has been much popular for many reasons. Soon, horse riding became a chief mode of travel. First, horses were mainly used for fighting and hunting purposes as the speed of the horse gave people good advantage. With the arrival of carriages, people are able to move themselves and their belongings to long distances with very little difficulty. But nowadays, horseback riding finds its use in recreation and therapy. Horseback riding camps are offered from almost anywhere in the world to anyone. It provides a wonderful and thrilling experience much more than merely riding through hills and valleys.

Instructions about caring of horses and grooming are also fundamental requirements for attending these camps. They will teach about various kinds of tack, like saddles, halters, bridles, bits and other horse gear. Most of the riding levels catered to in these camps, and they are appropriate for both beginner and experienced riders who might find themselves lucky enough to possess a horse for the first time in their life time.

While choosing a horseback riding camp, you should first make a decision on which style of riding your children wants to learn. Western riding is usually associated with ranches, cowboys and rodeos. These camps could be found all through the United States, and are also commonly known as Dude Ranches or Guest Ranches in western portions of the country. Most of the western riding activities comprises of trail riding and barrel racing. Western saddles are designed keeping comfort and security of the riders in mind, so it will have a higher seat back and front so riders feel the safety while on the horse.

On the other hand English riding, in general focuses on racing and horsemanship. This riding style requires both the horse and rider to have more freedom of movement, so these saddles will not give as much as support and security as in a Western style saddle. For a first time rider, you can consider joining a western riding camp.

Horseback riding is a very good therapy for people of any age with any physical disabilities. This therapy provides a funny environment to carry out new skills and also e skills existing that people are seeking to improve. Also they enjoy the benefits of being around people with whom they could relate easily. By following the instructions of the riding counselors, we can discover how to walk, run and canter the horses correctly with confidence. After attaining enough skill and self-confidence, take part in supervised trail rides and advanced riders could learn various show fundamentals.

If you are eagerly looking to do something different the next time summer rolls about, you could consider horseback riding camps. The experiences and enjoyment gained at these camps will make sure that your stay would be a highlight and you’ll keep in mind forever. Starting with the least experienced or novice level, these camps could teach your kids a lot about receiving comfortable experience with the horses themselves additionally to riding them. When they get the basics down, and if they choose like that, they could ultimately advance their skills to much higher levels.

Do you prefer English or Western horseback riding and why?

i know i asked this before

This gorgeous 1943 family film stars Roddy McDowell as a Colorado rancher’s son who takes a shine to a colt named Flicka and chooses to train her. The boy’s father (Preston Foster) isn’t happy about the idea: the horse is an offspring of a stormy mare who may not be right in the head. For a while, Flicka seems determined to prove the rancher’s point, fiercely resisting young McDowell’s efforts at …

Show Horse Trainer

When you’re watching show horses compete in an event, it’s easy to forget that they are wild animals. That’s because the show horse trainers have done such an excellent job of teaching these creatures to move, behave, and even think in a desired manner. It takes a lot of skill, experience, time, and patience to train horses, as well as a willingness to endure the occasional kick, bite, or shove.

You must truly love horses to be a show horse trainer, as the hours are long, the work is dirty, and the horses are dangerous. Even experienced riders need to learn the art of training from a professional, as it involves techniques that go beyond those of basic horsemanship. There are several places would-be trainers can learn the trade, including equine colleges, professional horse training schools, and business facilities that train apprentices.

Horse training schools offer certification programs or courses in equestrian skills, while equine colleges provide both an equestrian education and an academic degree. Choose an institution that has a good job placement service for its graduates, as there is a lot of competition for jobs in show horse training. An apprenticeship as an assistant to an experienced trainer will give you invaluable hands-on experience, but you will first have to perform tasks such as grooming, exercising, and saddling horses to hone your equine skills before you can progress to the training of horses.

Whichever educational route you choose, be sure to immerse yourself in the world of horses. Study equine anatomy, physiology, psychology, and health issues. Spend as much time as you can with horses, as there will always be something else to learn about them, and compete in as many events as you can. Once you begin your career, you will have a better chance of attracting clients for your services as a show horse trainer if you’ve first built up a reputation for yourself as a serious, accomplished show horse rider.

If you love horses, your efforts will be more than offset by the tremendous satisfaction of working closely with horses and experiencing, along with kicks and bites, those magical moments of clarity – the times when something the horse does makes you remember why you started working with these animals in the first place.

Pros

Close daily contact with horses

Rewards of close rapport and learning experience with horses

Cons

Competitive field

Dangerous work

Everyone knows choosing the proper footwear is important nearly any physical activity. This is especially true for horse riding. The correct type of horse riding boots will often keep you safe from a dangerous fall while still being comfortable for the rider. The main point you need to really know when choosing the right boots is to know the kind of riding activity you will be doing. For example, casual horse riders normally wear low-cut riding boots. They are easier to wear, and they provide a looser fit, meaning they are also more comfortable.

Most people picture riding boots as those tall black boots fitted up the leg. The truth is these are just one type of boot. Leg fitted boots are made this way to better communicate your riding instructions to the horse. Boots with a loose top can send the wrong signals to the horse, possibly leading disaster if you are in the middle of some type of rigorous activity. Avoid these kinds of problems by choosing the proper boot for your specific build.

One fact you need to remember is that basically there are two styles of boots. The first is the one most people know. It is a traditional plain front pull on boot. They have no laces or zippers and worn for dressage and shows. They other style of boots are the lace front or zippered back field style boots, which are commonly worn for hunter jumper class events. You’ll find that many experienced riders prefer these boots because of how rugged they are. Many riders wear them everyday of a three day show and come away with no issues whatsoever. If you decide on wearing pull on boots, make sure you have a boot jack and boot pulls handy. These help in eliminating any possible creasing or damage to the boots as you are putting them on or taking them off

Men’s riding boots can be found in a variety of different styles, many of which are made for a specific type of riding. You can choose from tall riding boots to paddock boots. Men’s boots usually cut a little wider in the foot area than women’s boots. This wide cut creates a more comfortable fit without giving up any of the style. Women’s riding boots tend to be more colorful and stylish than men’s boots.

Ted Stinson is a horse enthusiast who writes various articles on horses and the best methods of caring for a horse. Many of his topics include subjects ranging from the best horse riding boots to use to what type of horse riding helmets work best.

What size horseback riding helmet do i need….?

I measured my head and it’s 22 inches……..so what size helmet do i need in a Troxel spirit riding helmet ? Because someone is selling one and they said it’s a size small….would that be the right size for my head? I know i have to check and make sure it’s not stretched out or anything…..but if it’s nice, would it be the right size for me? lol i want to make sure before i buy 1….and in general, what helmet size would i need (6 and a half or what) there are so many different terms for the sizes and it’s really cunfusing!!!! help please? =}

Here’s a tip, go out to your local tack store and try some helmets on! All helmets are sized differently, much like shoes, so it’d be hard to tell you what size you would need. I wear a medium in my Troxel, but when I try on other brands medium is sometimes too big/small. So just go and try on some helmets at the tack store, you might also find you enjoy another brand better.

Hope this helps!

Adopting A Horse Is Supportive Of American History

In the early 1900s there were estimated to be about three million wild mustangs. Cattle ranchers began shooting mustangs because they were competing with cattle for the limited grazing opportunities of the arid land. By 1926 the population of wild mustangs had been reduced by half. Today’s population of wild mustangs is estimated at about 30,000.

Mustangs probably started in the western United States with Spanish horses. As the pioneers moved west, they lost horses to Indian raids, and these horses became part of the wild mustang herds. The government bought about 150 East Friesian horses from Germany each year between 1800 and 1900, and many of these horses also joined the wild mustang herds.

In an effort to save the mustang population from extinction, the Adopt a Horse program started in 1973. Through this program, some mustangs are sold each year to the public at a cost of $125 for each horse. The new owner will need to learn horse breaking.

Those who adopt the mustangs must meet certain requirements and must furnish safe transportation and housing for the mustang. The government retains ownership of the mustang for one year after an adoption.

This is a protective measure that most horse owners comply to without any problem what so ever. Most people understanding that to adopt a horse is a responsibility not to be taken lightly.

A year after the adoption process has begun, the buyer can submit a statement from a veterinarian, extension agent, local humane official, or other qualified person certifying that the animal has had proper care. Once the certificate has been approved, ownership of the mustang is transferred to the adopter.

This will feel like the prize as been won to the new owners. The bond with their new mustang will be complete. They have proven to be good care takers and have earned the right to possession.

Because of natural breeding and the basic law of nature, “survival of the fittest,” mustangs have exceptional endurance, become excellent riding animals and after learning how to train a horse they are just as tame as horses that were born and raised on a farm or ranch.

Mustangs have earned their right to a piece of American history. You can not view a western today without the icon of the painted indian horse, or the homesteaders pony that plows the fields. These images are a testament to the west. Horses undeniably have helped man modernize and advance his life style. The great horse provides free transportation, labor and to many, championship out in the wilderness.

To adopt a mustang is very patriotic. These animals are simply magnificent in every way and not to be taken for granted but rather embraced.

Is it fun being a trainer?

Training horses looks fun yet challenging, and great to bond with the horse and earn eachothers trust. I wouldn’t mind becoming a cutting horse trainer someday. Are you a trainer? Do you love what you do? Or do you want to become a trainer?

I have a lot of experience with training young horses. I no longer do it professionally, but still break/train my own young ones.

Some people have the ability to do it, enjoy it, and do a good job, and some don’t. You really have to be able to be calm and relaxed no matter what the horse is doing.

I enjoy it a lot. I’m not sure I’d describe it as being fun, but it is very challenging, and rewarding when you see your horse students turning into well behaved citizens.

Painting exterior house walls with wall coatings which also stops render problems and penetrating damp

PREPARATION!!!!! This is essential and is carried out always, before we can apply any of our long life paint and coating products, especially damp proof coatings for walls.

As we offer a 15 year guarantee on all works we do, using the correct preparation techniques is paramount when either having professional work done by a contractor, or in fact, doing it yourself. Any tradesman (or woman) who value their reputation and have pride in their work will tell you that unless the walls are properly prepared, the job will not look as good and not last as long and it will cost twice, or frequently more, in terms of time and money spent. So in essence, if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right especially if it something as important as waterproofing or damp proofing rendered walls or brick walls……….

Which is where we come in!

So with the above considered, how can we distinguish what type of wall needs what. Here below is an explanation of the different types of exterior walls, typical problems, and an explanation of what an Authorised NPA contractor actually does to each individual project?

There are many types of house walls…….

There are many different types of exterior walls that one can see in a typical town or city in the United Kingdom. Many exterior wall finishes are appropriate to certain factors such as the age of the house, the method of construction, the typical weather at the location, and other factors such as people extending houses, converting them, and so on. Maybe in the future, houses will have to be adapted to combat changes in temperature etc caused by Climate change?

When NPA does work on a house or applies a wall coating to a commercial premises such as a shop, we first ascertain what the existing wall surface is, and then tailor our repair and preparation methods accordingly.

Here’s a selection of different exterior walls, and the methods we use to repair them…………….

Exterior wall coating on Brick and stone walls

Brick walls are arguably the most common one in everyone’s mind, even spawning the phrase “hitting a brick wall”, not literally, but meaning coming to a dead end, perhaps in researching something, for example? Brick walls are what most walls nowadays are made of and this also included block walls, made from breeze blocks or large faced blocks, such as bath stone walls.

The bricks are laid end to end, one course (or layer) at a time, in a specific fashion, by a bricklayer or builder, leaving gaps for opening such as doors and windows and the installation of lintels above the openings to carry the course of bricks over the window, for example. The bricks are arranged in a specific fashion for the best strength.

These ways of laying the bricks have certain names such as Flemish bond, stretcher bond, running bond, pattern bond, and refers to the specific way they are laid. They are held together by mortar joints, often called “Pointing”, which consists of a mortar mix laid on the top of one brick, and the bricklayer adds a small lump of mortar to the side a of a new brick, lays it on top of the existing brick, and repeats, until the desired wall is completed. The mortar is sometimes referred to by “brickies” (Bricklayers) as “muck”, “compo”, “mix” or if you’re from the east end of London, “German Band an’ cemun’”…………….whatever that means!

The bricklayer will smooth the mortar joints and remove excess mortar as he or she goes along. It would be another article altogether to explain in full, all about bricks and bricklaying, so we’ll leave it there for now!

……. …and onto what NPA would do in this case.

If NPA was refurbishing a brick (or stone) exterior wall, we would have 2 options.

1) Coloured exterior wall coatings
2) Transparent, liquid silicone waterproof coatings.

The coloured wallcoatings would be the most labour intensive, and would require identifying any loose, missing or broken bricks and repairing or replacing them. (The coatings are special damp resistant coatings, and not only do they make the outside of your home look great, the anti damp nature of the coatings means your house will also feel warmer inside.)

Then we would repair and fill any loose or missing pointing or mortar joints, then we would mask up and protect all areas not to be coated, such as doors and windows, and also of course protect the path by laying dust sheets. We would then do a process known as “Bagging” or “Bag rubbing”, which involves making (by the bucket load each time) a liquid mixture of sand and cement and a PVA Bonding agents, such as Unibond™. This should be mixed to a smooth “creamy” paste, and applied with very thick brushes, or small broom handles. Gloves are essential when doing this, as if not worn, the cement will eat into your skin and cause great discomfort.

We then apply the bagging mixture to the wall, starting from the top and working downwards, and being careful not to let the mixture thicken as this will create an uneven surface and “brush lines” in the surface, which would show through to the top coating and look unsightly.

One this has been done and the cement coating has dried out, we then apply an “off-white” waterproof primer by hand, and then, using a GRACO president airless spray machine, we spray apply our textured exterior coatings, which once applied to the external wall, will not chip, crack, flake or peel, stops damp, and has a 15 year insurance backed guarantee. The same method would be used on walls made of stone. After the coating is applied to the house, you would still be able to see the natural stone outlines, preserving the character of the property, but with the added benefit of the house walls being resistant to penetrating damp, plus also being maintenance free. Again, please ask us for more information about what we would do to your house and how much it would cost.

CLEARSHIELD exterior waterproofing damp proof clear coatings

Our Clearshield system is suitable for stone or brick walls and it does not change the appearance of the house in any way.

We carry out all repairs as stated above, and then we apply 2 coats of silicone based sealer, which soaks into the brickwork, as opposed to laying on the top surface, which means it is not subject to normal erosion from the weather and has a life expectancy of at least 10 years. Click the link above to read more………….

Exterior wall coatings and painting hung slate walls

Generally speaking this was an old and fairly effective way of weatherproofing a house in the “olden days”. The house walls would be made either from cob, stone or brick, and left unfaced, that is, it would not have a mortar or render coating over the bricks or block wall of the house. Wooden battens (thin pieces of wood) would be nailed to the walls, and then slates would be hung, literally, as in the manner of the roof of a house. This forms an effective barrier against the weather.

Although they can be painted, both with normal masonry paint and exterior wallcoatings, we can do a tremendous amount of repair to this, save for replacing any broken tiles or rotten battens behind the tiles. We would then apply a coat of stabiliser, a coat of waterproof primer, and then spray apply our NPA exterior wall coatings over the top.

THIS WALL TYPE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR THE RENDER-BASED TROWEL APPLIED WALL COATINGS and you should contact your local wallcoatings specialist for advice.

Devon cob walls

Devon cob walls are normally found on VERY old houses, often subject to preservation regulations and/or listed status and great care must be taken when working on this type of house. The building method used goes back hundreds, even thousands of years and evolved as the builders would have used whatever was to hand in the immediate area. These houses are often also referred to as “vernacular” houses.

This type of wall construction is also known as “Rammed earth”, “pisé de terre” and Adobe or clay lump. Adobe houses can still be found in South and central America, amongst other places. (The Eden project in Cornwall uses adobe (mud) walls which are very effective.) Houses of this type should be treated with great care and refurbishment and repair of such walls requires specialist skills and advice and is not recommended for DIY projects. The house with this type of wall is usually made by mixing ingredients such as mud or clay, gravel, straw or horse hair and water. Walls of this construction are usually up to half a metre thick and examples can be seen in the English countryside, and the houses often benefit from excellent insulation, which coupled with a thick, thatched roof, can make a nice cosy home!

As mentioned above, GREAT CARE should be taken on this type of house. Repair should be carried out using the same or similar methods or materials that had originally been used, which is often why a specialist contractor should be called. A good exterior coating that I would recommend on this type of house would be a limewash or some other breathable coating, but again, remember on traditional houses, traditional methods should be used.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Exterior textured wallcoatings, either spray applied, ORtrowel and roller applied wall coatingsshould NOT IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE be used on this type of dwelling.

Textured coatings and paints on Render or stucco walls

NPA has over the years applied exterior textured wall coatings and protective weatherproof paints to a range of rendered houses across the Uk and Ireland. A rendered house requires us to check the entire wall surface for defects such as loose and hollow render, poorly done DIY or cowboy builder repairs, scars and uneven wall surfaces where alterations have been carried out to the house and of course cracks in the external walls.

We cut out the cracks with an angle grinder and fill them with a special expoxy resin mortar which binds the 2 parts of the building together, and then we “face” off the repair with a final coat of sand and cement, smoothing with a “float” 1st and then a damp sponge at the edges. Quite often on smooth rendered walls, it is advisable once the waterproof primer has been applied (and has dried) to further smooth out the edges of the crack repair in the wall buy “floating” or “skimming” small quantities of the textured coating product, using it as a fine surface filler.

Once the exterior walls are repaired to our satisfaction, we mask up the doors and windows, cover the ground with dust sheets and then hand apply our weather resistant, waterproof primer paint. Once this has dried, we spray apply a damp proof paint coating on top, which is available in either smooth or textured exterior wall finishes.

After this, the masking is removed, and the whole site is tidied up. The coating is 20 times the thickness of normal paint and as such takes longer to dry so you should avoid placing anything against the wall, or touching it, for at least a week. It would be touch-dry in 24 hours and fully hard in about 28 days. The coating will remain breathable, similar to the human skin so that moisture is allowed to evaporate out of the coating film, but cannot get back inside and cause dampness.

Wallcoatings on Tyrolean, Pebbledash and Spar dash walls

Pebbledash, tyrolean and spar dash walls go in and out fashion every few years. If you’ve ever tried painting a pebbledashed wall, you know how tough it is! The methods we use are very similar to the brick wall system above, so instead of repeating myself again, take a look at this page all about painting exterior pebbledashed walls, but remember to click your BACK button to come back here afterwards!

Pebbledash is a nasty substance and was invented purely to cover poor quality brickwork during the building boom in the UK during the 1920’s and 1930’s. A pebbledashed exterior wall finish is created by rendering the house with a soft sticky render coat and literally throwing stones or small pebbles at the house. Traditional pebbledash is made from small pebbles, but modern dash is usually spar dash or spa-dash and is applied in the same method above but small flint chips are used instead of pebbles. This inferior external wall finish is very coarse to the touch and the editor himself has literally taken the skin off the back of his hands when accidentally brushing up against a wall that has been spar dash, and let me tell you……….IT HURTS!

Tyrolean, also sometimes called “Sprayed cement” is brittle and doesn’t usually last very long unless it has an exterior coating treatment on it. Contact your local wallcoating specialist for advice, but to read more about tyrolean, follow the link posted in the previous paragraph above.
And finally………..

As you can see, there are a variety of exterior wall finishes on existing houses, and this article has only touched on some of them. When we work on your home we take many factors into consideration which is why, much as we would like to, we don’t have any “average” prices, preferring as we have done since 1986, to come and see your home and give it a full survey. More details of this can be found HERE

I hope that upon reading this article, we have given you, our valued customer, an insight into what we do and how we do it. No matter how old your home is, no matter where it is (We cover the UK, Ireland and Spain), and no matter what your home is made of, we can refurbish and beautify almost any property, in any condition so what are you waiting for?

Give us a call on 0800 970 4928 (or 0044 121 286 8558 from Spain) and have a chat with one of our friendly surveyors. This is totally without obligation, and you never know, you could end up saving a small fortune of home maintenance!

what does 8 horses means in chinese paintings?

We purchased a painting with 8 horses in it witha chinese characters/words at the upper left of the painting..some says it brings goodluck in business. But I wanted to know what it reeally means and the history behind it.

I think its the famous 8 horses of the King Mu of Zhou. It is a common subject of Chinese artworks.
Horses are a traditional Chinese art subject because they have very positive symbolism in China, and in Feng Shui. It has the meaning of horses coming bringing success. In China horses are a symbol of power, endurance, beauty freedom and passion

Benefits of Using Steel Cases & Steel Boxes

A track trunk is used as a storage container to hold items in your stable and keep them organized. They are most commonly used at barns. You can store first aid kits in these boxes. They are also large enough to hold saddles, brushes and training tacks. So you can carry them whenever you travel with your horse. They come in different sizes and colors depending on your requirements.

Depending On Your Travel

If you tend to travel a lot with your horse, then it is best to purchase a tack trunk that is light in weight and easier to carry around. You may need to transfer it from the barn to the trailer and back. So it will be convenient for you to have tack trunks that are not heavy. You can purchase plastic trunks as they are portable, easy to carry and dust resistant. You can also select one that has wheels which will ensure smooth transport.

Storage Options

The size of a trunk depends entirely on your usage. A trunk is a storage box that organizes everything, making it convenient for you to locate something easily. So if you are a person who trail rides, then you need to carry a lot of equipments. In such cases, you need to have a large trunk. But if you keep your horse at the stable itself, then it makes sense to have a small trunk. In other words, your storage space should meet your needs.

Compare Prices

When you buy a leather trunk for your personal use, you do a lot of research. Similarly shopping for tack trunks require you to ask around and get various opinions before you purchase them. Compare prices in different shops before narrowing down a particular shop. Also remember buying the trunk online is difficult since you may not be able to judge them accurately.

The documentary Buck explores the potent emotions between humans and horses. One of the inspirations for The Horse Whisperer, Brannaman survived a horribly abusive ch…

Robert Redford portrayed the horse whisperer in a 1998 movie of the same name. Conversations between horse trainers and those who are not in the business now frequently begin with the question, “Are you a horse whisperer?” Having been asked that question myself quite a few times recently it seems a good time to define the term for those who are interested.

The term horse whisperer in 2010 is really just a generic term used to describe many folks who train horses for themselves or as equine professionals. Decades ago using horses were “broke,” which back then often meant literally. At the end of the 19th century and into the early decades of the 20th, stock horses were born and grew up on wide open ranges, frequently not being handled until they were nearly mature at somewhere between three and five years of age.

Accepted Death Loss

In those earlier days the number of horses was large and the cost to raise them very small. When the cowboys brought in several hundred to buck out and break it was accepted than many would not survive the ordeal. Broken legs and broken necks were not uncommon and the horses either gave in or gave out.

Thankfully, horses are very seldom ‘broke’ anymore. Instead horses are now trained to be in a leader/follower relationship with a person. The cost to raise a horse today is significant and it would be foolish indeed to plan for a significant percentage of horses to die in training.

Horses Have Feelings and Value

Besides the economic loss associated with horses sacrificed in the training process, we just don’t consider them disposable creatures anymore. Horses have lived in both the dreams and backyards of children for more than fifty years since cowboys first appeared on the silver screen.

Today, the fastest growing segment of the horse business is folks over fifty either returning to the equine dreams of their youth or making the investment for the first time as family and employment responsibilities wind down. Thanks to the cowboys and horses of both television and movie fame, the horse has gained status as a companion animal as well as a working partner.

The Modern Horse Trainer

Every modern horse trainer worth their salt uses relationship as a basis for educating and developing the horses in their care. Every horse trainer today is a horse whisperer if they use their understanding of the horse’s personality, thought process, nature, need for herdship, and method of communicating to bring the horse into a position of security and confidence necessary to be in wonderful partnership with a human.

So, asking if someone is a horse whisperer is really asking them if they are a horse trainer that is both highly educated and who loves horses. It is sad, but not all do.

We now use the word Kleenex as a generic terms for facial tissue even though it is a brand name. The term horse whisperer used to be reserved for the very special trainer who could communicate with horses. Today, it is a term that should describe almost every horse trainer out there.

Perhaps one day it will describe them all.
